The West Indies were the next team and although they had showed some promise in the tournement so far they were not considered to be a real threat for lifting the cup. They had a good solid side and were verbally confident about their chances against a 'weak, inexperienced bunch of no hopers.'
Zimbabwe were put into bat, which they did not mind and it soon became apparent that the batting was going to make runs.
Jellett and Smith played some outstanding shots and guiding Zimbabwe past 50 in the first 11 overs was a comfortable start for them. The West Indies, for their part, had some sloppy bowling and they were punished by a refreshed Smith in particular. However, after 79 runs on the board Smith lost concentration and gifted his wicket.
Eclipse, who had become great at supporting his partners, did just that and Jellett began to steal the show. Eclipse came and went having made a reasonable score again.
Craze did the same as he did against Pakistan. Although looking less nervous he had hardly got settled before he tried to play a wild shot and he completely missed and was bowled.
Jellett continued to bat well as new parnters came and went and keeping the run rate at 5 he finished unbeaten on 140.
At the end of the innings he received a well deserved standing ovation.
Now could the bowler match such a brilliant batting performance.
It wasn't long before Hall did with the ball the equivalent to what Jellett did with the bat. Reducing the West Indies to 26-4 with bowling of extrordinary quality. He bowled Campbell for 1, then saw Bluefox make a wonderful dive to catch Lara for 8. Then almost repeat the move to catch Sarwan for 12 before taking Chanderpaul's middle stump when he only reached 2. The West Indies were in disarray, their top order smashed to bits.
It was always going to be hard to recover from this position but when Richards started to bowl it was impossible. His accuracy was impeccable and it wasn't long before he had taken Jacobs and Tuckett.
Reuben followed up nicely with a great lbw appeal which saw McGarrel go for 1 and then in the 26 over Richards took the last wickets in three balls. West Indies 99 all out.
A fantastic victory which has confirmed a semi final place.
