C&G Trophy 4th Round
The Web beat Surrey by 73 runs

Batting first after winning the toss, Mork went hit the first ball for 2 and edged the second behind. Nichani hit 3 fours in support of Bennett, but edged to Butcher at second slip after playing himself in. Cloete and Bennett then forged the best partnership of the innings, adding 71 before Bennett nicked behind for 60. Cloete made 59 and there were useful attacking knocks from Weber (25 from 19) and Gray(37 from 25) but the rest threw their wickets away too easily and CW were allout in the 45th over for 266.

The failure to take the full allocation looked like it might be costly whilst makeshift opener Graham Thorpe and Mark Ramprakash were busy adding 107 for the second wicket. Both Hall and Kearsley were tucked into frequently and chapman suffered the same fate when introduced. Halsey and Cloete changed the game though and shared 7 wickets to destroy the Surrey line-up, Cloete picked up 4 for 46 and the MOM award.

Next up Super Cup Final.

Super Cup Final
Sussex 201-3 beat Lancashire 200ao

Not the greatest performance by the lads on the big day. Put in to bat, after 13 balls of the innings we were 4-3 with Bennet, Nichani and Mork all back in the pavilion. Hoy hit his 2nd,3rd and 4th deliveries to the fence, but would add no more runs to the total as he edged to the slips for 12. 16-4. So to get to 200 from there must be regarded as somewhat of an achievement, and the sizeable crowd cheered the lower order in the hope that the game wouldn't be over before tea. The runs came mainly from Weber, Kearsley and top scorer Gray and the last wicket was only lost to the last ball of the innings.

Still 200 never looked like being enough, the opening bowlers were tight but unpenetrating and the batsmen enjoyed the spinners, chapman took 2-45 but the other two took punishment for little reward and the end came in the 47th over.

West Indies 204-3 beat CW 203 all out by seven wickets

The friendly against WI saw all 11 players changed fromt the super cup final, but it was a similar outcome to that match, the early collapse to 37-3 and 95-6 followed by a recovery from the lower order, in this case Richards(59), Bluefox(39), and Jellett(33), but ultimately the total of 203 was never enough. Neil Pickup was asked to fulfill the 'pinchhitting' role at number 3 and did a sterling job with 9 from 60 balls.

Nick Scott bowled well to take 1-25 from 9 but Lara and Gale had the total covered and Pickup in particular came in for some stick.

Northants beat CW by 2 wickets

An epic match at Wantage Road saw CW denied what would have been a famous victroy. There were superb performances from players on both sides as the match see-sawed throughout. The Web chose to bat on a cloudy morning and crawled to lunch at 70-5, undone not by the pacemen but a 3 wicket burst from Greame Swann, with Weber collecting the first of a king pair. Eclipse stood at the non strikers end as this procession went on, he completed a 50 but was out soon after and when Kearsley followed a run later the score was 104-7. The Dylan Jellett brilliantly ushered the next two wickets to add 57 and 42 respectively, Halsey contributing a useful 32. Chapman went for 0 to leave Jellett stranded on 65* and the score 203.

The Northants innings began spectacularly for the Web, with Rollins stumps smashed by Kearsley, and then next ball, the all rounder took a magnificent reflex return catch off Warren to leave Northants 4-2. Sadly the next partnership would yield 157, and the fourth wicket 194 as Mal Loye struck a delightful 203, ably supported by Brophy(72) and White(87). The spinners were innefectual and it was left to Kearsley to come back and wrap things up for career best figures of 7-98.

The lead was 246, but CW strated well and Eclipse and Bennett added 126 for the first wicket before Bennett fell for 50. Nichani came in and added another century partnership with Eclipse before 3 quick wickets including Eclipse for 135 saw CW slide to 234-4 still 12 adrift. The next 3 wickets added a few but not many before Jellett and Halsey once again struck back. Halsey made 25 in a partnership of 87 before Jellett was last man out for 89. 433 all out left a target of 188 for Northants to chase.

Kearlsey got an early wicket, but with the ball turning sqaure the early overs from Chapman and Halsey were poor and allowed Loye and Warren to add 75 for the second wicket. When they did settle in they nearly bowled the web to victory, sharing 7 wickets between them and sending Northants into tea at 171-8 still 17 short with only 2 wickets left. But Anderson and Penberthy managed to score the required runs and take the victory for Northants.
