Beat Australia three times(every time) and lost to England two out of three in the ODI tournament. So the final is Bangladesh vs England.

Really disappointed in both of these performances.

We fell to 113-6 on the first day of the first one. If we'd made an extra 100...

And that was an awful collapse to Giles chasing a gettable 250 to win the second. Gah.

That's enough for today - need to get over these defeats before I try the ODIs.

ODI series was much less successful for me. Only won one game out of the six, but it was a damn impressive performance against Australia, where the spinners skittled them for 135.

The series didn't have any real thrashings but the batting was never quite good enough, never scoring more than 260 for the entire series and even that game was a 20-run loss. he bowling is looking healthy though, as all but one occasion batting second I was chasing what I thought was a very gettable score.

Shazada still looking damn good too, I'll be keeping him in the side.

Bangladesh tour of England 2005 - ODI Tournament

Derbyshire v Bangladesh - Derbyshire defeat Bangladesh by 5 wickets
Bangladesh: 9/183 (Islam 69, Ahmed 24)
Derbyshire: 5/184 (Rafique 2/33, A Sunny 2/41)

Entered the ODI tournament in poor shape. ODI's have always been my weakness across all versions of ICC. This Bangladesh team has no pace-attack and facing a number of games under grey sky. Interesting tournament ahead.

England v Bangladesh - Bangladesh defeated England by 7 wickets
England: 9/160 (A Sunny 3/29, Mortaza 3/48)
Bangladesh: 3/161 (Rahman 83*, Ahmed 29*)

Australia v Bangladesh - Australia defeated England by 144 runs
Australia: 6/299 (Islam 2/58, Rafique 1/52)
Bangladesh: 155 (Ahmed 52*, Bashar 23)

England v Bangladesh - Bangladesh defeated England by 4 wickets
England: 7/178 (A Sunny 3/32, Mortaza 2/48)
Bangladesh: 6/179 (Bashar 83, Rahman 32)

Australia v Bangladesh - Bangladesh defeated England by 1 wicket
Australia: 4/251 (Rafique 2/41, Islam 1/48)
Bangladesh: 9/253 (Islam 99*, Rahman 39)

England v Bangladesh - Bangladesh defeated England by 8 wickets
England: 4/184 (A Sunny 1/43, Mortaza 1/45)
Bangladesh: 2/187 (Abedin 75*, Rahman 73*)

Australia v Bangladesh - Bangladesh defeated England by 1 wicket
Australia: 7/189 (Rafique 2/27, Mortaza 2/36)
Bangladesh: 9/190 (Rahman 47, Abedin 46)

ODI Tournament Final - Bangladesh v Australia - Australia defeated Bangladesh by 7 wckets
Bangladesh: 9/208 (Rahman 57, Bashar 49)
Australia: 3/209 (Islam 2/37, Rafique 1/38)

Incredible effort to win five group games and top the table. We fell well short against Australia in the final, but signs are good. Played with four spinners, and they constantly held back the run-rate. The batsmen did the job when it mattered, with nearly everyone in the lineup contributing in one of our wins.

Key statistics from the ODI Tournament:

Batting:
Rahman: 337 runs @ 67.40 (3 x 50)
Bashar: 238 runs @ 34.00 (1 x 50)
Abedin: 152 runs @ 50.67 (1 x 50)

Bowling:
Mortaza: 9 wickets @ 36.22 (4.66 RPO)
Rafique: 8 wickets @ 28.62 (3.27 RPO)
Islam: 8 wickets @ 32.50 (3.77 RPO)

My ODI tournament:

Derbyshire 165 (Kapali 4-21)
Bangladesh 166-7 (Rafique 36*)
Bangladesh won by 3 wickets

Bangladesh 227-8 (Ahmed 71*)
England 217-8 (Rafique 3-31, Shahzada 2-30)
Bangladesh won by 10 runs (so thrilled with this)

Bangladesh 126 (Rafique 30)
Australia 130-1
Australia won by 9 wickets (uh...let's move on)

England 262-6 (Shahzada 3-48)
Bangladesh 173 (Ahmed 50)
England won by 89 runs (ugh)

Bangladesh 241-3 (Abedin 108*)
Australia 245-2
Australia won by 8 wickets

England 270-6 (Razzak 2-50)
Bangladesh 271-7 (Nuruzzaman 95*)
Bangladesh won by 3 wickets (I've found a new star. Nuruzzaman got 40* (36) on debut against Australia, and now this amazing match-winning 95* (75)! His 50 came up off 51 balls, so he really accelerated at the end)

Bangladesh 206-9 (Abedin 60)
Australia 209-4
Australia won by 6 wickets

So pretty average, really. Two awesome performances against England, and a whole lot of rubbish. But I've seen some things to work with as I build towards the World Cup. Nuruzzaman in particular will be a key part of my plans.

Yeah, it's possible his good innings were a fluke - he failed in the last game. But I'll stick with him for now.

Another thing I learned - unproven 18yo quicks with good second team stats are not really a risk worth taking. Samad took 2 wickets @ 105.5, economy rate 6.09. Ouch.

Not bad, Ed. I tried Nuruzzaman myself in a few ODIs and he was a total failure for me.
Yeah, failed for me as well. Rafique took a bucket load of wickets at an average of 16! Use him during the middle overs. Batting seems to be the hard part with Bangladesh. Those major collapses seem almost impossible to stop atm. Ahmed is useful with the bat but its nothing like my West Indies game where my top 6 are now averaging well into the 50s.

A very, very bad Sri Lanka tour.

Warm-up v Sinhalese - draw

1st Test
Bangladesh 325 (Hasan 58*)
Sri Lanka 264 (Razzak 3-46)
Bangladesh 125 (Ahmed 67)
Sri Lanka 187-3
Sri Lanka won by 7 wickets
It hurts to lose so badly after taking a big first-innings lead. But Murali took 6-35 in the second innings, 11 wickets for the match. Too good. No excuses.

2nd Test
Sri Lanka 338 (Rafique 3-54)
Bangladesh 219 (Hasan 39)
Sri Lanka 425-3 dec
Bangladesh 136 (Ahmed 44*)
Sri Lanka won by 408 runs
That was ugly. We were never in it.

1st ODI
Bangladesh 195 (Nuruzzaman 85)
Sri Lanka 196-6 (Rafique 3-36)
Sri Lanka won by 4 wickets
Even 20 more runs would have given us a real shot in this one.

2nd ODI
Sri Lanka 234-8 (Shahzada 4-50)
Bangladesh 183 (Abedin 52)
Sri Lanka won by 51 runs
We were 101-1. Ugh.

3rd ODI
Bangladesh 190 (Nuruzzaman 88)
Sri Lanka 191-2
Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets
Not many positives here, apart from Nuruzzaman still averaging 83.25 in ODIs.

Nuruzzaman looks solid Ed. I selected him for the tour of England, his form against the Counties was poor and he hardly excited in any of the ODI's.

Who are you playing as WK? I have the young 18 year old Ahmed, he has been great thus far. I recall from another ICC2005 save that he played over 100 games for Bangladesh and averaged in the mid 30's.

I'm playing a guy called Parvez in Tests (averaging 23) and Mabud in ODIs (averaging 24). Not blown away by either of them. Might give Ahmed a try.

Easter break has paused my progress. The Sri Lanka series is up next, a very challenging prospect.

I was hammered in the Sri Lanka ODIs. Don't really have the patience to go for the WC. If we called it at the 2005 season I'd say Noble won it.

October 2005 - Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka

Sinhalese v Bangladesh - Draw
Sinhalese: 337 (Islam 6/96, Rashid 1/33)
Bangladesh: 196 (Rahman 53, Bashar 42)
Sinhalese: 3/141 dec (A Sunny 3/40)
Bangladesh: 5/156 (Ahmed 48*, Ahmed 28*)

1st Test - Sri Lanka v Bangladesh - Sri Lanka by 144 runs
Sri Lanka: 568 (Islam 7/155, Rashid 2/95)
Bangladesh: 394 (Rahman 135, Bashar 85)
Sri Lanka: 6/224 dec (Rafique 3/68, Islam 3/74)
Bangladesh: 254 (Ahmed 46, Rafique 39)

Beaten with ease by Sri Lanka. The game was over after Sri Lanka managed to last 190 overs in the first innings. The batting held out well, but with the pitch becoming tougher as the match went on a target of near 400 was too much.

2nd Test - Sri Lanka v Bangladesh - Draw
Bangladesh: 424 (Rahman 106, Islam 71)
Sri Lanka: 298 (Islam 4/78, Rafique 3/76)
Bangladesh: 226 (Bashar 50, Islam 45)
Sri Lanka: 6/175 (Shahzada 2/17, Islam 2/53)

A drawn result is good considering we are playing away to Sri Lanka, but this was our match to win. We had Sri Lanka at 5/122 in the first innings, but they managed to avoid the follow on and then survive on a wearing final day track.

Overall a good showing by Bangladesh in this series. Rahman has managed to lock the openers spot after twin centuries in this series. Otherwise only one or two positions are up for grabs in the Test squad.

1st ODI - Sri Lanka v Bangladesh - Sri Lanka by 73 runs
Sri Lanka: 7/266 (Shahzada 3/61, Rafique 2/56)
Bangladesh: 8/193 (Ahmed 66, Islam 52)

2nd ODI - Sri Lanka v Bangladesh - Bangladesh by 4 wickets
Sri Lanka: 7/175 (Islam 2/24, Shahzada 2/40)
Bangladesh: 6/176 (Ahmed 58*, Saleh 35)

3rd ODI - Sri Lanka v Bangladesh - Sri Lanka by 154 runs
Sri Lanka: 3/304 (Shahzada 1/54, A Sunny 1/62)
Bangladesh: 150 (Abedin 66, Ahmed 14)

Beaten 2-1 in the ODI series. The common problem with my Bangladesh side is attempting to force the run-rate, anything greater than 4 and the lineup will crumble. Shahzada was impressive and is likely to be given every opportunity until the 2007 World Cup.

February 2006 - Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh

1st Test - Bangladesh v Zimbabwe - Draw
Zimbabwe: 358 (Rafique 3/50, E Sunny 2/74)
Bangladesh: 592 (Bashar 94, Ahmed 74)
Zimbabwe: 9/317 (Shahzada 3/42, Rafique 3/117)

A boring draw. The pitch retained its flatness throughout, and my bowlers lacked the bite to run through this Zimbabwe team.

2nd Test - Bangladesh v Zimbabwe Bangladesh by 9 wickets
Bangladesh: 524 (E Sunny 133, Rafique 87)
Zimbabwe: 202 (Rafique 6/52, E Sunny 2/47)
Zimbabwe: 361 (Rafique 6/136, Islam 2/82)
Bangladesh: 1/40 (Rahmen 19*, Abedin 13)

Rafique has lead Bangladesh to a massive win. 12 wickets for the match and 87 runs scored with the bat. Bangladesh win the series 1-0, the expected result.

1st ODI - Bangladesh v Zimbabwe - Bangladesh by 7 wickets
Zimbabwe: 8/165 (Islam 3/30, A Sunny 2/23)
Bangladesh: 3/166 (Bashar 59*, Rahman 56)

2nd ODI - Bangladesh v Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe by 5 wickets
Bangladesh: 8/206 (Abedin 94*, Bashar 42)
Zimbabwe: 5/209 (E Sunny 2/21, Rafique 1/41)

3rd ODI - Bangladesh v Zimbabwe - Bangladesh by 6 wickets
Zimbabwe: 7/165 (Rafique 2/31, Islam 2/36)
Bangladesh: 4/166 (Rahman 69, Bashar 50)

2-1 result. A tight game in the second ODI, otherwise an easy series victory. The tactic for this side is undoubtedly to restrict the opposition with spin and then cling on with the bat towards the target.
