S Pollock (c), M Boucher, N Boje, H Dippenaar, H Gibbs, A Hall, J Kallis, J Kent, G Kirsten, L Kluesner, M Ntini, R Peterson, J Rhodes, M Hayward, D Terbrugge.
Missing from the squad due to injury was C Langerveldt, M Zondveki & A Donald.
1st game was against the west indies, firm favourites where the south africans, the squad was picked and is as follows.
H Gibbs, G Kirsten, J Kallis, H Dippenaar, J Rhodes, L Kluesner, J Kent, S Pollock (c) , M Boucher, N Boje, M Ntini.
Conditions where perfect for the cup opener, Sth africa won the toss and pollock decided to have a bat.

south africa got off to a slowish start with some good bowling from king and collymore, sth africa 0 - 29 off 10 overs.gibbs decided to get the runs flowing and the next 5 overs south africa put on 41. h gibbs the destroyer going to 49 (48). H Gibs bought up his 50 in the 16th over and the crowd and team appluaded this fine start. G Kirsten playing the anchor role with 24 (50).
The westindian bowlers where starting to take a hammering with south africa moving alone nicely to be 0 - 143 @ the 30 over mark. H Gibb 89 (107) and G Kirsten 44 (82). all but one of the bowlers where going for 4.5 runs per over. G Kirsten then bought up his 50 in the 32 over, a good anchor role is what he had adopted as gibs was at nearly a runa ball. H Gibbs then bring up his tonne, and everyone in the ground stood and cheered, a magnificent chanceless innings 100 (122) with 13 boundries. west indies needed to stop the on slaught. south africa 0 - 175 of 35 overs and they where looking at a big total.
Th e 200 bought up in the 39th over,and in the same over G Kirsten was dismised trying to put the indian bowler over the fence, caught in the deep for 75 (106). a great innings, that bought j kallis out to the middle, and when leaving the dressing room he was gettinga good talking to by south african skipper s pollock. (GET QUICK RUNS) was the message. the 2 put on a few quick runs before H Gibbs was next to go for a well made 142 (146). a magnificent innings. with 3 overs to go, L Kluesner was promoted to hit away.
South africa would finish with 2 - 284 of there 50 overs with J Kallis finishing on 41* (32) and L Kluesner 12* (7). a very good performance by the proteas, could the west indies get the runs on what looked like a good batting deck or was the mountain just too high.

Southa frica went on the attack early knowing early wickets would be a great start, S Campbell and Sherwan where the early batsmen.
Pollock and Ntini where bowling beautifully and when campbell played and missed and pollock hit the top of off stump it was a dream start, west indies 1 - 16. Chanderpaul was the next to bat and alot of pressure on his shoulders. When ntini trapped sarwan in front lbw of a quick 143k/ph fast ball west indies where in trouble @ 2 - 16.
That bought out champion batsmen B Lara. he scratched around and when M Ntini bowled the ball of his life to have B Lara bowled for 3 west indies where in all sorts 3 - 21. Sth africa where on fire.
14 overs had been bowled when we saw the 1st bowling change, J Kallis was handed the ball. west indies 3 - 54 and slowly trying to re build.it was a double bowling change with N Boje also bought on. C Gayle was dropped of J Kallis by J Kent, was a hard catch but did get bothhands to it diving away to his left. would this come back to hurt the south africans.
J Kallis then picked up the important wicket of S Chanderpaul for 45 (41). west indies 4 - 96 of 22 overs.
J Kent was then bought on to replace boje,and it had immediate rewards, kallis taking a fine catch at 1st slip of jacobs, west indies in all sorts 5 - 130 and in trouble.
J Kallis taking a rest and boje bought on from the other end, working in tandom with J Kent would go through the tail for not alot of runs.
N Boje would pick up C Gayle for 66 (78) and it was a fine innings. west indies then lost regular wickets to be all out for 174 of 38 overs.wouth africa winning by 110 runs in a solid performance.
