Now we've looked at the year in the past, let's have a look at the venues that will play host to the matches in the 2005 World Cup. SuperSport Park, Pretoria Allthough one of the most modern ground in South Africa, SuperSport Park is still a friendly place, with the grass bankings regularly seen in South Africa. ![]() The New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg One of the biggest, best and most modern stadiums in the world, this ground is scheduled to hold the final of the World Cup. ![]() Durban Cricket Ground A big, beautiful and impressive coastal venue, Durban traditionally provides a perfect balence between bat and ball. ![]() The Crusaders Ground, Port Elizabeth A historic ground, situated in the heart of South Africa, is sometimes regarded as a "flat-track", allthough this is a bit of an unjust repuatation. ![]() Newlands, Cape Town One of the most awe-inspiring and beautiful grounds in the world, with the backdrop of Table Mountain, this is a simply amazing ground. The first squad has also been anounced, that of the West Indies who arrived early for some warmup matches against Provincial teams. Great stuff Jamee.
If your putting this much detail into the pre-tournament stuff, can't wait to see some match reports.

Thank you to Tarick(twice
), Kears, King Ponting, chooka nick and Miles, for your nice comments.Interview with Ricky Ponting ![]() Chatting with the Australian Captain Hi Ricky, welcome to the studio. G'day Now, as our viewers may know, you were injured in the 3rd Test of the Ashes, a broken arm, and you haven't played competitive cricket since, are you fit again. Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Gilly, who did a marvellous job of securing the Ashes and then going unbeaten through the VB Series. I'm fit again now, I've been putting in some time in the nets recently. Your team has had a good 12 months, and you've unearthed some good talents, in particular, Phil Jaques and Brad Hogg, how far do you think these kids could go? Phil had an amazing start in the Adidas ODI Series [vs Pakistan], averaging 73, and followed it up with a solid, if not spectacular VB Series. He also forced himself into the Test team for the Ashes, so this was a huge year for him, let's hope he can have a long and fruitful career at the top level. I don't think that we "discovered" Hoggy this year, more like improved him, and got him into a regular Test as well as ODI player, 38 Test wickets in 8 matches this year, along with 33 wickets at 15.82 this year in ODI's. He also picked up a century in both forms of the game, so he's had a monster of a year. What are your hopes for this world Cup? We've won the last 2 ICC World Cups, and been to the final of the last 3, so I think that we should be able to get to the final of this, and possibly win it. The boys in the training squad are really ready for this big Trophy. Thank you for your time, Ricky. ![]() Ricky Ponting, training with the Australian Training squad, in Victoria, preparing for the squad to be announced and to fly out to South Africa. 2 more squads have today been announced for the 2005 World Cup. PAKISTAN ![]() Inzamam-ul-Haq(c) Rashid Latif(wk) Wajahatullah Wasti Salman Butt Yousuf Youhana Younis Khan Imran Farhat Shahid Afridi Shoaib Malik Abdul Razzaq Azhar Mahmood Saqlain Mushtaq Shahid Nazir Iftikhar Anjum Arshad Khan Mohammed Sami Shoaib Akhtar Danish Kaneria ![]() Inzamam-ul-Haq arrives at Cape Town International Airport with the rest of the squad. The Pakistanis have a strong squad with some world class batsman, and top level bowlers, they also have a battery of potent all-rounders.
