Batsmen/keepers

Has anyone EVER found a youth that had the picture of gloves with the little bat? I have NEVER seen it until today. I was playing yorkshire and after my first season I went to the cotnracts and there he was. He avearged 50 but had only 2 star form after hitting a few hundreds.. so I thoguht he was quality. he hasn't played many matches for me. But he hit 229 on debut in FC (only yotuh keeper to EVER hit a double ton for me) then went out of form. so he's played about 3-5 matches in both form but I've dropped him because he only has 1/4 star form. But it'll be interesting to see how he goes. I've never had a keeper average over 35 in either form!

In a past New Zealand game I had one come through.

Averaged 40 in FC cricket, and about 30 in ODIs.

That icon means that the he is a specialist batsman but is also a backup keeper i think

Well we don't really know what it means but according to unofficial editors (ie. the editor-maker's guess) it means part-time keeper

Well Justin Langer has that icon and he's not known for his keeping
Justin Langer played a couple of ODI's in the 90's around, and maybe even in the World Cup of 1996 for the injured Gilchrist. He came in as a keeper (just like Jimmy Maher does these days)

That's why he has been mentioned as a part-timer.

On the issues of keepers - for England - who is a great wicket keeper after Alec Stewart, I haven't had too much success with James Foster, but i continue to use him. I have used Chris Read once, and Geraint Jones aves like 20 in F/C, might keep Foster because he is consistantly getting 20, not enough though.

D.Nash was quite consistent for me and played a few very important innings in both forms of the game though he may be a tad old in your game, i've heard good things about C.Gazzard aswell

Just found another one in the same game! He wasn't mine but he was drafted.. so it will be intresting to see which one outperforms the other.

Anyway I know what it means and stuff. But what I was getting at... is how rare they are as youths...

Yeah - to the best of my searching there are two "flags" that denote keepers - let's call them A and B

A & B = Batsman Keeper
A = Keeper only
none = Three guesses

Is there anything that suggests a keepers ability? ie. Ability to stop more byes and less dropped catches?

i find that the youth part-time keepers(the type cloete originally mentioned) only really come early in the game and the longer you play the less of them you see - if any at all, one of my favourite type of players is the opening keeper, the best one i've ever had playing county seasons just retired

Yeha I find some of them go alright. But really.. keepers are keepers.. and on ICC that means they're ****!

But yeah both came in early and oen fo them arevages 38 FC and the other 35 OD.. so they're in a rotation. Unless one gets in 5 star form and he plays both forms.

I've come across a keeper who averaged in the mid 40's and damn he's fine. Even got picked to play for England but oddly enough did not keep. Must've been picked on his batting prowess alone.

The Bat/Keeper Icon is clearly referring to "part-time keeper" rather than "batter/keeper". Part-time keepers drop numerous catches and let plenty of byes through. Guys like Dharmani & Gilchrist show that batting ability is independant of whether they have a keeper icon or not.

As someone mentioned previously, my favourite type of player is also the "keeper/opener", being a full-time quality keeper who can also open nicely.

Actually, has anyone found anything in the database which actually shows that non-openers are worse when opening? I've played plenty of non-openers at the top of the order and they seem to do fine.

have been pretty lucky with keepers, always seems to have a decent one. My current one, Fogden, bats at 43 in tests and 47 in FC, 42 in ODI's

!!!!!

That's unheard of! Bradmanesque figures for a keeper on my game!

here you go, he had a pretty good year last year aswell, he doesn't usually get to bat much, but i've taken to playing 5 bowlers so he now bats at 6.

his second team ave is only 41.
