Match Report – One Day Int. – Australia vs. England:
On an overcast day at the Oval, Australia won the toss and elected to bowl. McGrath picked up Trescothick early and Kasprowicz removed Vaughan in his first over, the home side was 2/51. Kasprowicz then bowled an amazing double wicket maiden over and England were really struggling at 4/58. McGrath returned after Gillespie completed his ten and picked up a wicket and when Hogg came in and got his first wicket the score was 6/87. But Butcher and Simon Jones batted with grit and put on 91 for the seventh wicket before Jones was for 32, Hoggard was out for 0 with Butcher running out of partners at the other end on 75. England ended up finishing on 8/188, a decent score after the trouble they were in. Butcher made 92 not out and Kasprowicz took 3/40 from 10.

Australia made a careful but comfortable start, Hayden was out for 22. After that both batsman went on the attack, Ponting fell for a quickly made 26. When Gilchrist fell for 51, Australia was in slight trouble at 3/120. But Australia were never really threatened and got home with 6 wickets and 28 balls to spare.

Coaches Comment: "Happy with the win, thought Kasper bowled great. The only thing that was slightly annoying was all our batsman getting starts without going on. Anyway we are delighted to finish on top of the table and look foward to the finals."

Coach's Comment:"Very disappointed with the loss, but we'll learn from this and regroup for the test series"

Hard luck mate, it's never easy scoring runs off the Pakistani spinners at the best of times and a slower start wouldn't have helped. Where are you off to next?

Should be interesting to see how a few lesser players perform, Cullen, Wright and Hadden in particular. Good luck for the Ashes series, I'd probably class your side as favourites so at this stage I'd expect the Aussies to come out on top!

Match Report – Four-Day Friendly – Australia vs. MCC:
MCC won the toss and elected to bat, the pitch was pretty even and good for batting. Lee and Kasprowicz charged in and bowled tightly early on but towards the end of their spells the MCC batsman got on top and the score was 0/62(16o). It wasn’t until 147 runs were on the board when the first wicket fell and the next one fell 1 run after, the score was 2/150(45o). At one stage they were 4/255 but they then lost 6/63 in a collapse mostly triggered by the part time spin of Clarke and Symonds. They were all out for 318 with Pearson making 120, The best of the Aussie bowlers were Clarke with 3/28 and Symonds with 2/36.

Australia got off to an aggressive start scoring at 5 runs in the early going but Langer fell for 15. In came Katich to combine with Hussey for an even 100 stand before Katich fell for 49, Hussey fell next for 75 and the score following his dismissal was 3/170. Symonds came out in a very aggressive mood and scored an amazing 22 ball fifty! He was later dismissed after exhilarating 61 off an 27 balls. Lehmann reached his hundred soon after and Clarke was out for a very well compiled 79. Haddin came in and made a quick 44, After Lehmann was dismissed for 146 Australia declared there innings closed 176 runs ahead of MCC.

The MCC opener put on another 100+ opening stand, Kasprowicz finally got the first breakthrough. Kasprowicz and Cullen bowled a nice spell in tandom picking up 4 wickets between them. After 60 overs there score was 5/177. They were all out for 281 with Pearson top scoring again with 71 and Cullen bowling impressively taking 4/99.

The Australian openers strode out needing 106 runs to win from 2 and ½ sessions. They got their easily without losing any wickets. 0/106(23.3o), Langer made 65 and Hussey made 40.
