Guys it looks like Gazza and Snoop are at the start of a twitter beef. What times we live in.

Arsenal's pursuit of Tierney (i.e. repeatedly offering a tiny bit more than their previous offer) is so obviously going to end with some other team coming in and meeting Celtic's valuation at the last minute and snapping him up.
Hope he goes nowhere and gets a serious injury at Ibrox in August. Wee prick.

I remember going back 25 years a friend of mine at the time (RIP Clive) was desperate for Arsenal to sign new players - and the next day they unveiled Chris Kiwomya.

Since Ferguson left, there's been lots of talk of Man Utd needing to play "the United style". Michael Cox I believe has questioned that idea suggesting that during Ferguson's reign, one of his strengths was an adaptability which meant that there wasn't really one overall style over the period. A basic thing people often mention is the willingness to give young players a chance- a willingness Ferguson often had. But then I guess the issue is, once they're on the pitch, what exactly do you do with them? Is there a fully coherent style United have continuously had over the past, say, thirty years, or is it just a vague thing of playing attacking football (which can be performed in various ways)?

I don’t remember anyone mentioning it when Ferguson was there. Even when Moyes took over, people complained that he played ****e football but it wasn’t being compared to a mythical United Way.

That said, you couldn’t argue with the idea that LVG and Mourinho had a way of playing that didn’t suit the club. Maybe it can only really be defined by what it isn’t?

I mean, there isn’t really a Liverpool way, but also, Hodgson didn’t play the Liverpool way.

The whole mythical 'X way' is bollocks regardless of whom it refers to tbh.

Newcastle's style was supposed to be a flashy attacking brand that specialised in wingers bombing forward, a big all-round number 9 who scores all the goals, to the neglect of a solid defense. This hasn't been particularly true in a while but Benitez completely dismantled the myth whilst he was here, focusing on being a complete well-drilled unit, where goals come from anywhere we can get them, but we barely leak anything. It wasn't pretty but everyone loved him for it.

Basically no-one really cares that much about the brand of football, as long as you exceed expectations. I suppose it does help having a villain of an owner for your manager to apparently be railing against, and the lowest of low expectations. But I think it does hold true.

I think fans in general want to watch good football. Beyond that it’s all lip service.

Sarri a bit of a counter-example to both the above posts- was hated by fans and eventually sacked despite perfectly good results, and shows that, while everyone prefers their club to play good football, different clubs have radically different ideas of what ‘good football’ is.

That said, I do still largely agree with both. Barca and Ajax are obvious exceptions though.

Just out of interest, is anyone in this thread following Everton's shirt sponsor obligated friendly matches against Kenyan Sportpesa Cup winners Kariobangi Sharks?
