***Official*** English Football Season 2018-19

It's hard to know what to make of Le Tiss, actually. English football history is littered with talented wasters who fans of a certain age mist over at the mere mention of and mutter something about how it was a tragedy they didn't play more for the national side (Stan Bowles, Franny Lee, Tony Currie, Rodney Marsh, Lee Sharpe, etc) but big Matt wasn't (AFAIK) a pisspot, snatch hound or degenerate gambler, just a big boned lad and his club stats are pretty effing impressive.

It's nice to think he'd have maybe played more for England if he'd had a more sympathetic national coach, but equally there's a slight suspicion he was happy in his comfort zone at The Dell.
I don't think he was really suited to a rigid 4-4-2 formation, which was, iirc, the default setting for the national side during most of his career. Ditto Hoddle of course, from a decade or so previously.

Tbf throughout the late to mid 90s England used quite a lot of different formations under both Venables and Hoddle. Granted he may not have been suitable for use in the others used either (mainly Christmas Tree and 532 w/wing backs iirc), but it's not like 442 was the only system England ever used back then. Far from it.

True. Maybe someone like Le Tissier just needed the side to be built around him in a way that wasn't going to happen at international level.

With all the direness of Brexit and other distractions I had actually forgotten that the Premiership was back on today. Gun.

You're newly promoted this season aren't you?
To League Two yeah. We were meandering to midtable six weeks ago but all of a sudden automatic promotion back to our ‘natural ’ level seems very real.

Obviously conference was always a ridiculous level for us to be at but the truth is League 2 is punching below our weight too. We’ll struggle to trouble to top end of League One whether we get there this season or whenever we do, but it certainly feels like an appropriate level for us.

I realise the score may change, but Chelsea are surely the weakest top six side by a bit of a margin? So poor.

Always a pleasure to see Warnock hard done by, but that's so harsh on a team in a desperate relegation scrap.

If nothing else, it shows how small incidents can have huge effects on relegation battles. It might even illustrate game theory.

Very 2014-Liverpool feel to this performance, playing at a ridiculous speed first half then tiring in the second.
