2014/15 Football Draft

So I can, but only in random one off games. Not in a custom tournament. Not a biggie I guess, but it does change the nature of it a bit. No injuries, suspensions and teams don't know if they need to win or only get a point to qualify etc.

I'll do it from now on though. Restart or just doing it from here on in?

Meh if it's too annoying don't bother, idc. Just seems a bit anticlimactic considering how long we spent drafting.

Maybs leave it and see what others think.

Brentford (Pothas) v Coventry City (Marc) at Griffin Park

Brentford 3-0 Coventry City

Sanchez 24, 63, Isco 58 (Brentford).

The start of Group A got underway on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Griffin Park. Much to the delight of the capacity crowd, the home side got their campaign off to the perfect start, with Isco and Alexis Sanchez helping the Bees to a 3-0 win against the Sky Blues. The ball was shared equally between the two sides, but it was Brentford who managed to create the best chances and took the lead inside the opening half an hour, when Isco turned just outside the box, and chipped a cross, which Alexis powered home at the near post. The Bees could've extended their lead before the break, when, after some neat play on the edge of the box, Suarez dragged Isco's through ball just wide of the far post. Coventry had their chances to get back into the tie. Shortly after half time some good footwork and a powerful low shot from Van Persie forced a reaction save from Buffon, but Moutinho blasted the follow up over the bar. Not long afterwards, Modric slipped a through ball between Silva and Godin, which Isco slotted past the motionless Lloris. Alexis sealed the tie five minutes later, when he took a pass from the substitute Illaramendi, got away from Baines and Schniederlin and hammered a shot into the top left corner. Player of the match: Alexis Sanchez

Aw man that second Brentford goal was so easy on the eye. Great stuff.

Really top effort cabinet. Gun write up and highlights. Can't wait for future installments.

Smitteh you know I am forever thankful for your continuing presence in my life. It's why instead of calling you by your real name, I address you primarily as "Hey you, behind the bushes".

Top work, Cab.

As an aside, if this gets too tedious for you I could try and figure out Twitch and livestream the knockout rounds using the PC version. Assuming there's interest, of course.

Tranmere (GIMH) v Rotterham (Sledger) at Prenton Park

Tranmere 2-4 Rotterham

Rooney 8, Götze 52 (Tranmere)
Pedro 13, 21, Falcao 65, Marchisio 71 (Rotterham)

The second match of Group A followed the afternoon kick off at Griffin park with an evening game at the home of Tranmere Rovers, who were up against Rotterham United. In a high scoring game the away side prevailed thanks to Pedro's two early goals, and an overall quality display, including three assists, from Mesut Özil. Tranmere had got off to the start they wanted, when Götze chipped a ball over the top to Rooney, who got away from Rodriguez and fired home, but the away side responded instantly. Pedro received a pass from Özil in a tight space, and rouletted past the defender before slotting it past the near post. Less than 10 minutes later he again got on the end of an Özil pass before slotting into the far corner. Tranmere hit back just after half time, Neymar played Coutinho through, whose shot was saved but only into the path of Götze who headed home. Falcao, who fortunately for himself has his 2013 body in this tournament, put Rotterham back ahead however, with another spin and calm far post finish. Marchisio sealed the tie five minutes later, when he made a surging untracked run from deep and hit a first time shot low and powerfully, past Courtois.

I don't have anything to record the gameplay with though. This is just using Xbox's inbuilt gameplay recording, which has a max length of 5 minutes I believe.

Going to do the opening fixtures of Group B right now. There's 10 rounds of fixtures for each group, as each side plays each other twice, so will post each match day in a separate post, spread over the next week or so. Will also post tables to go with it, etc, etc.

Here's the Group B complete fixture list (will add Group A when I've made it).

I think we've got two matches too many (see MD2 and MD10)

Barça have 7 and Arsenal 7, so need to be inserted in there somehow
