Best sporting schools
Came to mind after Scott won the Masters
He attended a tiny secondary school called Kooralbyn International School that has only been in existence since 1985. Alumni include Adam Scott, Jason Day (3rd in Masters), Steven Bowditch (PGA tour member) and Cathy Freeman (Olympic Gold Medallist). They also have a great academic record Sports people that attended Matraville High include the Ella Family, Russell Fairfax, Eddie Jones and Willie Tonga On the downside, Bob Carr also went there as did many (other) criminals I remember playing rugby against Auckland Grammar, a school that holds the record for producing ABs (they smashed us!) Any nominees |

When I was playing club rugby in Canada there was a young 15 year old who trained with us who had stars in his eyes - who talked about moving to NZ just to go to Auckland Grammar. Martin Crowe went there as well.

Maritzburg College has a fearsome rep.
KP an alumnus, obvz, but also Butch James (world cup winning Springbok fly half), Joel Stransky (ditto), Philip J Nel (only Springbok skipper to lead his side to a series win in NZ) & Graham Ford (current SL & former Kent cricket coach). Plus various SA cricketers throughout the generations and decades including but not limited to Jackie McGlew, Jonty Rhodes & David Miller.

Prince Alfred College in Adelaide the undisputed champ for Australia with four Test captains - nurtured all three Chappells, Greg Blewett, Clem Hill, Rick Darling, Tim May, and skipper of the 1902 Golden Age side Joe Darling.
Wagga Wagga for Test openers - Taylor and Slater. Have also pumped out Geoff Lawson, Nathan Sharpe, Peter Sterling and various AFL deviants. Interesting very few current and recent-past Australian cricketers come from the private school systems. Cowan (Cranbrook), Watson (Ipswich Grammar) and Bird (Riverview) the only ones - in my whole watching of cricket - that spring to mind. Most of the good ones defect to rugby or get denied the chance to play grade cricket till they leave school (fair cop, since many come on cricket scholarships).

Yep, I'd get behind the soft-**** line of argument. Imported coaches and owning your own sporting field are no substitute for primal western suburbs grit and hooking 25-year-olds off your mo before you've even grown one.
