Current top eight:
Chiefs 63
Stormers 62
Brumbies 58
Crusaders 56
Bulls 54
Sharks 54
Reds 53
Hurricanes 53

All other teams are written off. The Chiefs and Stormers are guaranteed a play-off spot, with the only way for the Brumbies are missing out being a 4-try win for the Reds and the Brumbies losing with no bonus points, and those two results overturning a 91 point differential. In other words, the Brumbies are also through.

A win for the Crusaders confirms them a spot, even without a bonus point. A bonus point win for the Bulls and Sharks would confirm both side a top six spot.

The crucial games therefore involve the Reds and Hurricanes. Potentially, one of those sides could lose with two bonus points (for four tries and a close loss) and if two of the Bulls, Sharks and the Reds/Hurricanes lose, that side could still qualify. Alternatively, if the Bulls and Sharks both win, even a bonus point win for the Reds or Hurricanes might not be enough.

Given the Reds face the Waratahs, traditionally a low scoring and close encounter, and the Hurricanes face the Chiefs on the top of the table, plus relatively easy draws for the Crusaders, Bulls and Sharks, I wouldn't bet on either the Reds or Hurricanes qualifying.

Not correct. The reds would go through in this case as number of wins is valued higher then points differential (Both on 10 at the moment, Reds win/Brumbies loss would make 11 wins to 10). Can't see the Brumbies not winning or at lease getting BP in Canberra though, so the reds are pretty well shot :(

Ah yes, you're right actually. For some reason I had it in my mind the Reds had one less win and so a win on the weekend would bring them level on wins with the Brumbie, and so points difference would be the tie breaker.

I read a statistic today that if the Stormers don't score four tries against the Rebels on the weekend, they'll be just the third team in five seasons (after the Lions in 2008 and the Force in 2011) not to score a four try bonus point across the regular season. And yet they're sitting second on the table...

That's two pretty average TMO decisions already this weekend. That Dagg one was just terrible.
Agreed. Wellington's try last night was dubious at best. The decision to award Dagg a try this evening was just appalling. Ellis' wasn't much better, to be fair.

Anyway, I imagine Ripper's rather satisfied right about now at the combination of results leading to the Reds topping the Australian conference!

Satisfied yes.

Hungover. Absolutely.

Quade will probably get 2 weeks for his hit on Barnes. Filthy. Just as he's nearing his dazzling best.

I was at the Reds game. The atmosphere was buzzing when news got around about the Brumbies....and then exploded when Shippers scored the 4th.
