Johnson resigns as England manager
From the BBC.
All in all it's been a disappointing tenure from the great man. We had an abject world cup and the buck stops with the man who makes the calls. Johnson put too much faith in the players he'd played with himself. Maybe he was just too close in age to his charges. Interesting Mallett and White have both already distanced themselves from the gig. Henry said he fancied manging in Europe again, didn't he...?

Johnson never instilled any discipline into the team. That was the big problem with him.

From some of the anonymous quotes attributed to the players, it seems some of the senior players effectively treated the tour as one long drinking session, with a bit of rugby in between.

Just staggering.
I'm always slightly skeptical with such leaks, because they're normally made public by someone with their own agenda to pursue, but given what we saw on and off the pitch one's inclined to believe there's more than a kernel of truth in it. Paints a picture of a set up that's not fit for purpose and, given the ****ing abortion that is the RFU, that's no real surprise. It's no wonder Mallett, White & now Henry are keen to give us a swerve; no one wants to board a train as it hurtles towards the buffers at high speed. Only chap to emerge with credit could be off to Wales as well. Leekists fancy Rowntree. Last edited by BoyBrumby; 23-11-2011 at 12:10 PM. Reason: typos |

Met him some years ago and that is a fairly apt description
His nickname was something like "Teflon" as nothing ever stuck to him and again, that seems pretty appropriate as his term at the RFU has been an absolute disaster and he still has a job |
