Love the CGs, mainly because NZ usually ends up with an awesome medal haul.

There must be some nerves amongst those heading for Delhi after the tourist shootings yesterday, though. But I'm sure the security will be excellent.

Yes, Bolt is injured, but he was never really going to go, anyway, because this is his rest period, before starting preparations for the World Champs in South Korea next year....

Among those also missing will be Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Nesta Carter, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Kerron Stewart, Sherone Simpson, Sherri-Ann Brooks, Briggite Foster-Hylton, Vonette Dixon, Deloreen Ennis-London, Melaine Walker, Kaliese Spencer, Ricardo Chambers, Jermaine Gonzales, Michael Frater, Mario Forsythe, Dexter Lee, Isa Phillips and Dwight Thomas. All of these athletes are better sprinters than those who were named to the CWG squad. Again, all of them are undergoing their rest period, before starting to work themselves into peak form for the World Champs.

Honestly wouldn't be going if I was an athlete. Security aside (which I assume will be adequate, but incidents like yesterday certainly don't help), the reports suggesting that dengue fever is a threat would be a major concern for athletes. Wouldn't just be effecting them over the course of the games, but potentially for a reasonable amount of time after.

Also the time when British athletes such as Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, Jenny Meadows and cyclists Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton will be 'resting' too....
In full and fair disclosure, Ive never heard of any of them.

Hoy's one of the bigger names in track cycling, isn't he? Three golds at Beijing.

Dunno how people can't like an event such as the Comm Games.

What would you prefer, a Two and a Half Men marathon, ****s??

Any sport > no sport.

I just assumed it was a warm-up for the pistol shooting, didn't realise it was a security breach.

To be fair to the cyclists, it's an almost physical impossibility to do both the Commonwealths and the Cycling European Championships and the Euros count towards the 2012 Olympics where in their infinite wisdom the number of competitors in each event has been drastically cut.

Head of the NZ team has predicted it will be called off as the athletes village is not even vaguely livable. NZ, Aus, Canada have reported filed a complaint in 'the strongest terms' at the 'highest level' that urgent action is required to address the situation or otherwise it will impact the Games. Getting quite likely that there will be some major teams withdrawing IMO.

In fairness to all the athletes who are resting, given the rate at which westerners tend to get sick when they first travel to India, it's hard to blame them with World Championships and the Olympics coming up. You get a serious gastro condition, it could cost you the best part of a year before you're back where you need to be to compete with the best. For those with prospects beyond the Commonwealth level, it doesn't make a lot of sense to go.
