Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Cringe.

Well done Yank interviewers, you managed to disrespect a legend. Hope he cancels the whole thing and joins some competitive European league.
Legend?

No sorry but being in the same advert as Roger Federer and Tiger Woods doesn't make you a legend by association I'm afraid. Even being a big cheaty cheat doesn't do it.

And 300+ goals, which is more than most goal-poaching specialists usually manage.

And I couldn't really care less if he cheated once or twice, show me a sportsman who didn't.

Oh I'm sure Scaly's reply will be very original and I totally won't have read it 900 times before.

Oh his *team* won a few trophies. That'll make several thousand players a legend then. I mean it's not like these terms are overused at all is it. A legend, in the general sense, not in the context of a club like the CDMs is one which takes some earning. Being a flat track bully for the CDMs doesn't cut it. Having a lot of appearances for France but a pretty poor record doesn't cut it. In a couple of decades people will still remember Zinedine Zidane. They won't remember chief cheateur because he did sweet FA at the top, even I have trouble recalling the way he butchered CDMs' opportunity of winning the CL by fluffing two sitters in the final. That sort of thing does not live on and make someone a legend.

Get some context of reality. Federer is a legend. Tiger Woods is a legend. Zinedine Zidane is a legend. They are all-time greats. Chief cheateur is only a great at a bunch of mercenaries in some non-existent place in London.

About as original as Scaly's post TBH. I like Scrabble personally. When's the season start again?
Can't help if deluded peasants keep aping the media's love of hyperbole, making out good club players are 'legends' or 'heroes'.

Oh and Scrabble is all year round of course...

Stoke are ready to bid £14m for Carlton Cole

In other news, Irish club Shamrock will play Juventus in the Europa League third qualifying round. So Uppercut, will that consist of nothing but long balls and kicking the **** out the Juventus players?

International Coach
Scaly's right, Henry isn't a legend of the game. He's was a bloody good player, one the best at the time, and Arsenal did well with him in the team. But listing all those team titles, nice n all, but hell, Wes Browns won more in that time! (wiki only lists 5, but was given a medal for 09 i believe, also missed a medal in 2000 due to injury)

He'll go down as an Arsenal legend, and France will remember him highly, so will the Premiership, probably. But he wont be a legend of the game, the same as English greats like Lineker and Shearer wont be, because none of them captivate the world the way Pele, Maradona, Best, Zidane, Cruyff did... Even as a Utd fan I'll admit Giggs and Cantona probably wont be lauded by kids around the world in 20 years time (though will be in Manchester)

You dont have to win lots to become a legend, look at Best as a prime example. Legends have that something (a certain va-va-voom???) that fires the imagination.... Henry doesnt quite reach those heights worldwide.
