JAMES Hird insisted, when signing off on his 12-month suspension, that if there was no pay there was no deal.

Oh man if Essendon are paying Hird I hope they get fined again.

it seems like they were allowed, if only though a technicality, to do so

so just attack hird and essendon for their, once again, piss poor decision making. ie why are you paying a suspended coach 1 million dollars while asking for donations from the fans. or james hird is an extortionist

Essendon were also technically allowed to inject **** in their players and yet they still got done. That AFL can do what they want. Demetriou has come out strong saying they aren't being paid. If reports that Hird is actually being paid is true, the AFL will be embarrassed. If they want they can come down hard on it, even though it wasn't explicitly drafted in the deed.

Having said that, that is so amateur hour by the AFL and its legal advisors. Why would you not have that in black and white ffs.
