Apparently per year Hawthorn were offering more but Franklin just wanted to move to Sydney.

I bet it's front ended and Franklin will just walk away after a few years, or he'll do a knee and not be as good (because let's face it, he can't mark) so Sydney will try and trade him.

Really don't think the COLA is a big deal here. The changes to the Vets list have had a far greater impact in allowing the Swans the cash to go after Buddy and Tippet. COLA is worth 900 odd K and you can bet your bottom dollar the managers of most Swans players don't forget about the COLA. And I doubt Tippet or Buddy have moved for an extra 22K

Of course it's a big deal. Without that allowance they can't get Franklin, simple as that. That's not what the allowance is for, it's for ensuring the players aren't worse off for living in Sydney.

And there we go, AFL has all but confirmed they will turf the allowance if Franklin signs.

I can only imagine Sydney will lose a number of players over the course of the next two to three seasons. They will be desperate to get another premiership either next year or the year after otherwise they'll have their eggs in in one basket.
