Ok was wondering wtf you were talking about with regards to Jobe but I just saw he released a statement.

Just had to say it didn't he.

In my opinion, although it could have been handled better, yesterday’s decision to axe Michael Voss was absolutely the correct call for the following reasons:

- Winning percentage of less than 40%, and our best finish since 2009 has been 13th. (not only is this piss poor, but in a non-AFL market, the viability/profitability of a club is inextricably linked with its on-field success. Brisbane packed the Gabba out in the early 2000s. Why? Because we kicked ass. Now, the club is drowning in red ink. In non-AFL towns, the average man in the street only jumps on board if you’re successful)

- Five years in the job (it’s not like he was not given enough time to prove himself)

- As the Courier Mail’s chief AFL writer Andrew Hamilton wrote earlier this year, nobody actually knew what Vossy’s game style was…the Lions simply don’t have one.

- Our top draft picks of recent years, Jared Polec and Billy Longer, are languishing in the State League as is the talented Patrick Karnezis – these guys haven’t developed under Voss and are looking to move on.

- There was little improvement from last year to this year (but there should be with a young, quality group of players). We’re currently 13th on the ladder. To your supporters, you either have to be selling hope of better times ahead, or selling current success…For the past couple of years, Brisbane weren’t in a position to sell either. After last year’s solid effort where we won 11 games, everybody expected big strides to be made this year, with some analysts at the start of the year even predicting we could sneak into the finals. Sadly, we currently sit 13th on the ladder.

- It may avert a mass exodus of players.

We need Paul Roos or, failing that, Rodney Eade (proven coaches who have both taken teams to Grand Finals, and who know how to build a team. Both of these guys have also been successful in non-AFL towns)

To sum up, although it’s sad that a club legend was shown the door, yesterday’s axing of Voss is the first step in lifting a dark from over the Gabba, with the promise of sunnier times ahead.

Unless they got Roos/Eade/Choco Williams etc. this decision doesn't make sense because why offer him the contract extension at the end of 2011 and sack him now? Should have been sacked then. By offering him the extension after the 2010 trading/recruitment disaster you gave him the chance to rebuild the list. That's exactly what he did.

However, if they have already landed a gun coach, fair enough to sack him.

The only way it would make sense is if they have already come to an agreement with a high profile coach.

Voss ****ed up monumentally first time around, and that put the club back a year or two, but when the board kept with him despite that they had to see it out. Blind Freddy can see they've improved this year, even if their win/loss ratio may not show it.

Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Call me Blind Freddy, but last year there weren't the horribly uncompetitive performances that there have been this year.

We had an easier draw this year too.

Anyway, the Chairman says that an announcement will be made by the end of next week, which must indicate that they're a fair way down the road with someone.

Well yeah you must be blind, because last year there were 7 times Brisbane got beaten by around 10 goals or more (and several others around the 40-50 mark) and this year I think the figure is 3 times.

If you think Brisbane haven't been more competitive this year then well....

ahahahahahaha i am not surprised at all that the players statement was not really a players statement:

"Jobe put his name to a statement and he realised after re-reading it that he would have changed a few words because he knows the players could still be sanctioned.

"Perhaps he didn’t read the statement as carefully as he should have.’’
