Yeah it's a shame that it looks like he's not going to see out his contract, but at the end of the day he's more than paid his way through advertising for the code. Just disappointing that the AFL couldn't get even more mileage out of him.

It would have been good if he'd kicked on, there's a massive Maori/ Islander demographic in western Sydney and elsewhere for whom he could have blazed a decent trail.

Wonder where he'll end up in the NRL? I'm tipping he'll want half a mil to play on the wing, so no doubt my mob will buy him, and because Sandow is half back he'll never get the ****ing ball anyway.

Yeah it hasn't been a fail by the AFL, but wasn't as much a success that it looked like it was originally going to be.

Good on him though, couldn't handle not being the best (or in fact, any good) at something just for the money. Wanted to do what he does best, play rugby league.

Good point made there re: GWS now likely to get Tippett.

Yeah exactly. Patton, Cameron, Giles, Folau and Tippett would have arguably been too many big men, plus salary cap issues with Folau (though I guess the AFL are paying some of his salary with marketing fees and what not etc.).

Now, one less "big man", one less highly paid player in the cap.

What a lack of heart. Forget Katich, Sheedy should have gone after Siddle

Would fancy Siddle in the midfield...could run all day

The difference between Folau and Hunt and why latter made it and former didn't it, is because Hunt has ambitions in the AFL, he has a passion for the game, and he also has the nous to be able to learn the game. Izzy, by contrast, had no passion for it, and I think is essentially a pretty simple man who lacks the nous to learn the nuances or even the fundamentals of AFL at such a late part of his career.

League is an easier game to pick up, and learn if you start your career late (Garrick Morgan excepted).

Absolute bull****. How the hell would you know anyway?

Anyway Folau was overrated when he left and I think it'll take a long time for him to get back to where he was, if he ever does.

both games are pretty simple really. league you get ball and run forward. (and the ball is given to you in an easy way). afl you get ball (slightly harder to get ball) and drop ball on boot correctly.

League's way simpler, tbf.

40/20s aside, one of its main selling points is that it's so easy to pick up for the uninitiated. The senior rugby code is a lot more spectator friendly now, but the cliche used to be "Union is for the players; league is for the fans".

Aussie Rules can be a little daunting to outsiders. The lack of an offside line is the most alien concept to anyone raised on football codes with them. Other quirks seem quaint (no kick offs, bouncing the ball every 15m, handpasses, free kicks for marks, etc) but one adapts.
