The AFL's head of game development David Matthews told The Age that a ''younger generation'' of rugby league players had developed an interest in the game and a number of NRL players had contacted the AFL "to express interest in switching codes".

''We've fielded at least eight genuine inquiries from players out of league and union, off the back [of Hunt and Israel Folau's development],'' Matthews said.

Meh, I'm not really that bothered by it all, rugby league doesn't seem to struggle to replace them.

argh the number of times a ball has just came up short of the boundary and the Dees have been able to play on and bounces that have held up our attack.

but overall not a surprise. same old brainless kicking into the f50.

These two teams are unbelievably injury hit. Melbourne moreso but still Essendon are missing a lot, and its clear from the quality of play.

At least Melbourne are having a crack. Instead of a ****ty Friday night match we have a semi-decent Friday night match, which is at least close.

Mind you, with Sylvia down and all of Melbourne's injuries (including Davey and Jamar) Essendon don't really have an excuse if they lose. That's arguably Melbourne's three most important players (can argue Moloney as well).

not really. our problem is we kick it in and just expect forwards to mark it. we don't look when we kick into the 50. And watson, hurley and hocking wouldn't fix that

We're not top 4, we're nowhere near it and anyone, essendon fan or the media, who has told you that a) knows **** all about our team and b) has been looking at the results and not the game. We've had these problems since the Carlton game and we've shown no attempt to fix them.
