George Weah for Gabriel Batistuta would be a bit more cult IMO.

Down to wage hyper-inflation in the last 20 years. Granted, our spending in the late 90s/early 00s wasn't sustainable, but looking back I think we really missed a trick in the mid 90s. Gascoigne was on about £18k a week at Rangers and I can remember the outrage when Ravanelli joined Middlesborough on a £40,000 a week contract, which was completely unheard of. We could compete with absolutely anyone in Europe in terms of wages back then; had we allowed Walter Smith to leave in 1997 like he wanted to and appointed Advocaat we could have signed Ronaldo from Barcelona. That would have been immense.

Yes, I know you meant the non-Rangers midfield
Arsenal very foolish to sell him in my opinion. Granted he had a pretty shocking injury and then lost his place to Gilberto. But the guy was twice the player Edu was, and better than Flamini as well. Remember he had one bad game at left back against Blackburn where I think Damien Duff tore him to pieces and he never really came back after that, big shame.

Remember once when he got taken out from behind against Liverpool and was shown a second yellow card for diving. Was fuming.

If it's the Anfield incident I'm pretty sure he slipped. He certainly made absolutely no appeal for a penalty anyway.

Epic side. Would be interested in hearing some of the explanation for your choices.
