I'm fairly sure Contador or Cancellara could beat the hour record if they tried, though. It was more significant back in the 70s when Eddy Merckx basically went into a velodrome on a road bike and smashed the record to pieces.
And he did in Mexico City. That point shouldn't be missed. It is very hard to be able to ride at almost 60km/h for a full hour, I would be skeptical if Contador wanted to go for it.

Looking forward to the climb up Lance's nose. Fear it might be a bit short, though.

I didn't see the stage last night but is it true that they played the Danish national anthem instead of the Spanish for Contador?

My team bored the backside off me all tour. I tried to go for the moderate option and balance the climbers/sprinters and all I ended up doing was staying 150th for three weeks. It was more fun last year to be 4th and then crack...

Not helped by Boonen, Menchov, Sastre and Evans all being rubbish. Could have done with Gerald and the Schlecks being higher up, and not ignoring Farrar/Rojas as "first day luck". Don't pick teams at 11pm during the end of term when your brain is off is the moral of this one, I think - but I don't see the organisers moving the tour to accomodate my term dates.
