Most memorable piece of commentary
So sports fanatics, what line uttered by a commentator is permanently embedded onto your brain - no matter how hard you try to get rid of it. It can be something clever, sarcastic, stupid, inspirational - whatever tickles your fancy.
Mine has to be: Simon Hill:"Aloisi, Cahill, CAHILLLLLL, Tim Cahill has done it again, What a goal by Tim Cahill, 2-1 Australia. Oh what a wonderful moment in Kaiserslautern." Honourable Mention: Dennis Cometti on Tony Liberatore: He went back into the pack optimistically, but came out looking misty optically. |
Definitely. Still remember it like it just happened yesterday.

Last night, can't remember who it was:

"Your boys took a hell of a beating...": mad Norwegian Bjørge Lillelien a bit pleased to beat England in 1981.
"Dennis Bergkamp": great goals deserve great commentry. I love it that beating Argentina meant that much to him. "They think it's all over...": it is now, etc. "Jones! Bowden!": Benaud finds the mot juste. "Those three little words that mean so much": England lead Argentina, ftr. |
"Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! The heavyweight champion of the world has been knocked-down." - Howard Cosell
"A dramatic start? What a score!" - Bill McLaren "Look at Shaq, like Michael Jordan of past days." - Bill Walton "Mortlock... he's heading to the line... they wont catch him." - Gordon Bray "Throw that man off the field." - Keith Quinn "A dazzling score to finish it off, the great meistro has drawn down the curtain with the touch of a magician." - Bill McLaren "Donald stayed, Klusener come." - Bill Lawry |
"And Tranmere Rovers have equalised against all the odds!" - when Ned slotted in our equaliser V Leicester @ Wembley
"Who said this game was over? Not me!" - Andy Gray during Tranmere's fightback V Southampton (3-0 down at half-time, won 4-3) - he had said game over, or words to that effect when they went three up |

|
"It's up for grabs now...": Micky Thomas wins the league for Arsenal at Anfield in injury time of the last game of the season.
"At last at the fourth attempt.": Jonny Wilkinson, 2003 & all that. "If England could just unlock the door with this freekick": David Platt's last-minute volley downs the gallant Belgians. |
"NICK DAVIS! NICK DAVIS! I DON'T BELIEVE IT! I SEE IT, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT"
3:30 mins, and the commentary came from a Geelong supporter. Was awesome professionalism. Quote:
Wasn't commentary as much as cheer leading. |
I'll never forget the radio commentary when Tony Lockett kicked that point. Was insane.
