Cricket Web Cycling Team

A well-tested idea, no doubt, and while we're waiting for AFL to kick alive the season might as well be occupied with a summer sport.

Anyway, you know the drill; we're all world-class athletes with the medicinal capacities of Eufemiano Fuentes to back us up, just waiting to be released on the world of professional cycling. We'll be racing all the major races, as well as some local races to appease the public. Highlights include:

January: Australian Championships, Tour Down Under
March: Omloop Het Volk, Tour of the Cape, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-San Remo
April: One-day classics, such as Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Tour of Flanders
May: Giro d'Italia
June: Dauphiné Libéré, Tour of Switzerland, National Championships
July: Tour de France
August: Clasica San Sebastian, Tour of Germany, Hamburg Cyclassics
September: Vuelta a España, Tour of Britain, Stuttgart World Championships

I'm going to base myself on a cross between my hero, Geraint Thomas, and one of my favourite riders growing up, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov. I'll let you wonder exactly how I'm going to manage that whilst I go and place my giant pizza into the oven.

Date of Birth: 30/08/1985
Cycling nation: England/Uzbekistan
Specialist: Sprinter
Goal races: Milan-San Remo, Giro d'Italia (first half anyway, mountains might be a bit much, but worth a shot as a Tour warmup), ultimately the Maillot Vert.
Domestique: Gert Steegmans (QSI)

Flat: 78
Mountain: 56
Hills: 61
Downhill: 64
Time Trial: 50
Stamina: 64
Resistance: 62
Recovery: 74
Cobblestones: 50

Sprint: 83
Acceleration: 85

There's a bit of Magnus Backstedt thrown in.

EDIT: Incidentally, Hakky, how are you going to be simulating this lot?

A Welsh/Uzbekistani. The world knows no wonders.

Btw, forgot to mention one thing; as CW most likely won't have enough riders for a ProTour team, each of you is allowed to name one rider as personal domestique for the team. The only criterion is that he's never placed top six in the general classification of a Grand Tour or won a Grand Tour points jersey. Will add this to sign-up form.

Me:

Name: Håkon Mørk
Date of Birth: 04/10/81
Cycling nation: Norway
Specialist (One of the following five: Time Trialler, Climber, GC Rider, Sprinter, Breakaway Rider): Time Trialler
Goal races (name up to three): Tour de France stage win, World Championship ITT, Liege-Bastogne-Liege
Domestique: Kurt Asle Arvesen (CSC)

Details (can be omitted, will be adapted to each position)

Enter values from 50 to 85 in each of these 12 parameters

Flat: 74
Mountain: 60
Hills: 82
Downhill: 65
Time Trial: 82
Stamina: 75
Resistance: 76
Recovery: 70
Cobblestones: 54
Fighter: 67
Sprint: 56
Acceleration: 64

Also, sprinters have been given a slight boost as it seems impossible to make a decent rider otherwise.

As for simulation: Pro Cycling Manager 2006, updated to this year's database thanks to PPDB. Will replace Unibet.com with us, and throw out a few non-contracted riders and dopers.

What a cool name, wasn't he from Uzbekistan or somewhere like that?

Wiggins is a current World Champion tbh, but it's on the track. Will leave it up to Haakon to decide.
