So 'Great Britain & Northern Ireland' finally win their first gold of the European Athletics Championships - on the last day of the event. What a pathetic performance.

What makes it more annoying is it was the overpaid layabout show pony sprinters who won the gold, who probably now think they've done a good job. You've got unadulterated crybaby knobhead Darren Campbell who sulks on every interview, drugs cheat Dwain Chambers who should have been banned for life and even as he wasn't should have been at home anyway so somebody with a future could compete instead. Then you've got Mark Lewis-Francis who manages to go backwards each year and is completely wasting his natural talent. These posers won't win jack in an Olympics. Marlon Devonish does at least seem to be vaguely likeable and has made something of his limited talent.

So where are the athletics medals going to come from in the 2008 Olympics and more importantly in London 2012?
Better start four years on; Mo Farah & Chris Thompson making it a 1-2 in the 10k.

Chambers should probably pick up a medal of some description (silver is my guess) in the 100m at 8.45 too.

Farah joins the likes of Pietersen, D'Oliveira & Catt in the list of successful African-born British sportsmen.

Well, Chambers finished fifth, but good to see Mark Lewis-Francis taking silver behind Lemaitre....

All in all, a good Euro champs for the UK.

Most of the events we won medals in we won't be anywhere near come the Olympics.

Stuff like Heptathlon, Triple Jump, maybe the 400m hurdles are the only events we look like we could transfer on the world stage

Ennis really is a star though, hope she wins Sports Personality this year. Great competitor, really seems to be genuinely happy that others have improved, so she can test herself. Reminds me of Daley Thompson how she always comes good when it's needed most.

Seems a nice person too.

Totally agree with those three....

So much hype over the French kid Lemaitre, and his time isn't anywhere near likely to frighten the Americans or the Jamaicans in either the 100 or the 200.
