Went to the Wanderers game last night. Absolutely epic experience. One of the most amazing atmospheres from an Australian crowd. The entire home end was bouncing chants off the each side of the crowd. Home end: "Who do we sing for?" Western Grandstand: "We sing for Wanderers", Home end: "Who do we sing for?" Eastern Grandstand: "We sing for Wanderers". Epic!
At least until the Wanderers had a penalty turned down with 5 minutes to go 1-0 down, the home end erupted. Water bottles and a flare thrown onto the field. I thought I was at Lang Park Tried to explain to the crowd that we weren't Queenslanders but had no luck.I'll be back.

I support Adelaide, but end up going to Para as a mate supports WSW. Have somehow been to all but one home game! Write 'Ausage' on your forehead, and I'll keep a look out for ye.

Never understood the soccer fans need to throw flares and ****. I mean, I know you're in distress as you're stuck watching the A-League but honestly, it can't be that bad.

A-League refs, seriously. That ref tonight really was absolutely hopeless. Glory can feel robbed again this season as they were last season IMO. For mine, the league isn't going to get any better with the quality of the refs that are on show week on week.

I'll be reffing my young bloke's home games this year again. Last time I refereed the team they're playing against today, one of the opposition players left the field in tears at my response to his mouthing off at me.

Absolutely no idea why anyone would want to be a ref, particularly in soccer where there is a culture of crowding and pressuring him. ****ty thankless job. |

Was listening to a couple of former league internationals on the radio last night who've covered all kinds of events in Australia and around the world. They said the atmosphere at Parramatta Stadium in the semi was like nothing they'd ever seen or felt in Australia. Just a real intensity apparently. It's good to see some crowds in this country get full on into a sporting contest and happily express it. I always think we're a bit too reserved the way we specatate in Australia, even at massive grand final-type events.
Providing they leave out the flares etc, it should be a cracking atmosphere. And again, what a story the Wanderers are. Five weeks befor ethe season the club had a coach and six players. It's an extraordinary effort, irrespetive of what happens on the weekend. |
