Phil Waugh should have been on from that start against the All blacks. The only exc use they have not to play him usually is that it weakens the lineout - but the all blacks aren't all that interested in the lineouts, there is really no excuse not to play him with Smith.

I think Larkham was pretty poor last night which made the attack look alot weaker. Mortlock was good though, its good to see him coming back into form. i think that the ball didn't get spread wide enough often enough - and when it did we had front rowers out there. Should come 2nd comfortably by hammering RSA again next time.

IIRC, Connolly refuses to play Smith and Waugh together (ala Eddie Jones) and wants to develop a more traditional blind slide flanker. So far it's not helping Australia at the breakdown which is where New Zealand won the game. The whole reason they couldn't get the ball wide was slow ball at the ruck.

It was an error ridden game with too many penalties, but my god was it epic. Some of the best defence I've seen in the last twenty years.

I thought today's game was absolutely brilliant. Australia were excellent, NZ were pretty average in the first half but came back strongly in the second. A really exciting game.

I was embarrassed when that try was awarded to Elsom. I almost hoped we didn't win on the back of it.
