I Love Playing Cricket

Today was the start of my season and I have been appointed captain. We are in Prem two and are rated the sixtenth best team in the region. This is great considering two years ago when I was first picked in the team we were not even ranked in the top 50 teams. Anyway since I started playing for the team we have remained undefeated..that was until today..In my first game as captain :(

I lost the toss and they elected to bat and made 170 odd and I was very satisifed with my teams effort in the field.

However my satisfaction was about to change with barely a blink of an eyelid when we began our run chase. In no time we went from 17/0 to 30/7.

I went out to bat at number nine and supported the last remaining recoughnised batsman and occupied the crease for a good 20 overs (i shouldn't really have been bating that low but i slightly strained my hammy while bowling). We got to within 24 runs when I played around a straight one and was bowled. There was little resistance from the remaining two tailenders and we lost by 20 runs with a very dissapointing display from virtually all the specialist batsman.

But the main point of this post is to just say that I love playing the great game. I love competing. It is so good to go out there and be able to challenge the opposition with a bit of banter.

Anyone else got similar thoughts?

I am 55 as many of you know.
I have seen a lot.
Done a lot.
Been at the top of my profession - was a CEO at 35, set up 2 companies from scratch, brought up a company from near bankruptcy to a roaring success,
Been all over the world many times over
Done all the fun things in life
bought all the gadgets to my hearts content

But believe me, there is no greater pleasure than being on a cricket field, stroking a ball with the middle of the bat effortlessly to cover or boling the middle stump of a top batsman out of the ground.

Nothing can beat that...nothing. :)

To be honest, I would probably do all that stuff you've done, if I had a choice between a game of cricket.

Ah, nice. :)

I'm doing my Bachelors in Chemical Engineering. Can I take it for granted that I'll be employed by you, sir, when I get out of University? :D

Although, TBH - I'm not into plastics much. I'm rather thinking of going into the field of techincal writing. :)

Ah, nice. One of my very good friends stays in Sevasi, and has been living there ever since he was born. Maybe, you know their family? The Trivedis? They're not actually in Sevasi, but Khanpur, which is just opposite Sevasi. They're into the tobacco business.

true.
although out of that whole list, the only thing ive done is bowl the middle stump of a batsman. except hes normally not a top one, and it normally doesnt come out of the ground.

Best feeling in cricket is a perfect cover drive for four off a good fast bowler.. Position held of course for the photographers!

We have metal advertising hoardings around the deep cover boundary.. Lovely to shimmy down the pitch to the quick and send the ball scooting along the ground, and the clatter against the boards is so satisfying..

For me the best feeling is defeating a batsman in flight and clean bowling him while bowling a classical leg spin bowl pitched just between middle and off at a good length with a good purchase off the track.

Hit a good defensive stroke with the action like that of dravid with the loop he has is also highly satisfying.

Also hittin the ball just below the manufacturer's sticker for a powerful straight drive.

Also watching cricket on a cold winter evening in a near empty cricket stadium with a good cup of tea in hand. I thought of doing that tomorrow for the final day of the England-India under 19 test but with just 4 wickets to go for an Indian victory, I have dropped the plan of going and chances of watching good cricket is fairly minimum now.

I look forward to testing those ad-boards out.
