Would be hilarious if the Germans beat Italy and France only to lose in the finals to Bale/Ronaldo.

Could easily happen as they'll have a day less to recover amd will have worked far harder to get to the final.

Giving the Second World War to France is like Owain Fon Williams taking the credit for Wales' run to the semis

1871 a clear German win but what's the other one? Can't be the Thirty Years' War, that's a win for France if anything...

World War 2. Germany got annihilated in the final by Russia but beat Poland, Denmark and Norway in the group stage then France in the first knockout round.

FIFA convinced the organizers to have them join in the quarter-finals for commercial reasons, from where they beat Italy and Japan.

The final vs USSR was never played.

Lost on penalties to Germany in 1940. (Didn't get beaten but couldn't stop Germany advancing through the Balkans and into Russia in 1941.)

Had a rematch in North Africa where they staged a late comeback to win.
