Ashley Arnold's under-19 debut was extremely successful, as the Black all-rounder made a name for himself in both disciplines to be CW's Man of the Match in a one-wicket victory over hosts Tasmania. The calm head of Manjunath Reddlapalli was also key as Tasmania's low total of 223 for two was chased down in the final over.
Earlier, Jonathan Wells had dominated to such an extent that it was hard to see why Australia hadn't considered him for the full under-19 side. A beautiful innings of 117 not out delighted the parents and other onlookers, but strong and athletic bowling kept him from attacking fully. One six and six fours was all he had to show for it, as McNamara once again came up with economical figures and also had Lesuma caught at cover after a disappointingly meagre innings. Jones and Steele played able support hands, but McNamara, Forner, Pares and Arnold did well with the changed ball, not letting the total run away.
That proved crucial. After a promising start, second-change bowler Alex Saunders cut one in at Aseem Sharma, who was bowled middle stump for 24. Dwyer played another calm and collected innings at three, though he did pick out too many fielders, while Arnold rushed singles at every opportunity. He raced to 54 before he was held by Lesuma at square leg, and the chase turned more sedate.
However, by the time Nichols had completed his ten with a yield of Kerr and Dwyer, the Webheads needed urgency. 54 were required off 12 overs, with the last 12 having given 40 for the loss of two men; Donald and Reddlapalli were beaten on a number of occasions in the next over, and things looked precarious. However, Reddlapalli saved his face with a couple of tonks over midwicket, which cut the required rate below 5. However, Tasmania had another trick remaining. Rhys Owen, who had thus far provided eight overs of slightly above medium pace, continued in this vein, but finally hit a sweet spot on the pitch to unsettle the batsmen. Both Roberts and Forner prodded feebly, caught at short mid off, and suddenly the Webheads had only two wickets remaining. David Pares, however, fought back with fortuitous fours in successive overs, before his third inside edge found leg stump instead of the fine leg boundary. However, his quick rescue action had left the tourists with seven to win off fifteen; Ethan McNamara came in and immediately wafted at a wide one, but Wells at point failed to hold on, giving Reddlapalli the strike. With the target reasonably low, Reddlapalli and McNamara decided not to take any desperate chances, and were rewarded when a flick from McNamara trickled away from a running short square leg for the winning three runs.

Arnie gets a call up
Cricket Web Under 19s have made one change from the side that won the 2nd YODI against Australia. With the series level 1-1 the Webheads have called up CWA all rounder Ashley Arnold. Arnold made an impressive debut for the Under 19s against Tasmaina with a Man of the Match performance, scoring a 50 and taking a wicket in a tidy spell. Arnold will replace fellow CW Black batsmen Callum McMeekin.
With Arnold call up to the side CW Red all rounder Chris Dwyer will drop down to Number 7, with Arnold expected to bat at 3. On the back his match winning performance with the bat fellow CW Red all rounder Manju Reddlapalli has been promoted to Number 5. With addition of Arnold the Webheads will be hoping the extra depth they now have in batting and bowling will help over come a powerful Australian side.

One of the most incredible Under-19 innings ever seen, an utterly dominant run-a-ball 120 from Matt Luff in bowling-friendly conditions at Hobart, trumped David Murphy and the Australians as the Webheads took the U19 ODI series by 2-1 after a dramatic last ball victory. It completed a remarkable tour comeback, and though Ashley Arnold had considerably less success than in the tour match here two days ago, he still impressed with his fielding performance, taking a vital catch to dismiss Simon Keen when well set.
Earlier, Forner and McNamara had wasted the new ball, allowing openers Murphy and Sarma to settle as they paired up for 69 for the opening wicket. Murphy and Hughes pushed forwards, but George Roberts returned for possibly his most important contribution on tour, a brace of wickets through a return catch off Hughes and a sharp point chance held by Ritchie to dismiss captain Wade. The hosts wobbled after that, and Pares celebrated three wickets in a fine second spell, but Forner and McNamara were still found wanting when asked to close the innings, allowing Hill and Burns 43 possibly vital runs for the eighth wicket as the hosts batted out fifty overs.
After ten overs, the situation looked positively hopeless. The openers had barely survived the testing opening spell, but the required rate had soared to 5.5 an over, as Luff and Hopgood had scraped together 28 off the first 60 deliveries, and looked at a very low ebb indeed.
However, the Webheads flowed back into the back. Boundaries were littered throughout the second and third powerplay sessions, a total of nine fours and one six collected during the overs 11 through 17, and though Hopgood was eventually held on 47, the damage had already been done. Luff kept on charging, allowing the batsmen at the other end to concentrate on not getting out, which they failed at with depressing regularity; though only Dwyer passed 20 of his batting partners, there were stands worth 25, 43, 32 and 15. Luff tired towards the end, giving up an easy chance to Burns at mid off which could have been critical, as David Pares and Chris Dwyer were left with another rescue operation with the bat. Day kept things close with a barrage of yorkers, and by the final over, Cricket Web required four to win, having needed only 26 off 34 when Luff got out; Pares and Dwyer played and missed once each during the first five deliveries, taking singles off the other three, which left the scores tied. Austin attempted a blockhole finish, but overpitched by a couple of feet, allowing Dwyer to swing through the line and see the ball vanish for six over square leg, a fitting finale to an outstanding game of cricket and a fine series.
