Selectors keep faith in rookie seamers

After Cricket Web Under 19 tour hit rock bottom with their 4th loss in a row, at the hands of the under strength Victorian side. The Under 19 selectors have decided to keep faith in their rookie seamers and given them another chance to prove their worth in the 2nd YODI against Australia. Forner and McNamara are expected to take the new ball with Pares coming on 1st change. The selectors are hoping the extra specialist seamer can help then problems breaking through the Australian top orders.

Experienced spinner George Roberts and all rounders Reddlapalli, Dwyer and Ritchie have been selected to provide support. Meaning vice captain Blake Donald misses out on selection in favour of the extra specialist. Donald however is still expected to play a major role in stronger form, Four Day Cricket.

The selectors have also resisted temptation in selecting CWA tourist Ashley Arnold, who arrived in Melbourne from Nixontown late yesterday. Instead pulling a further surprise and selecting CW Red all rounder Chris Dwyer at No 3. Dwyer will become the 4th player selected at No 3, after impressing the selectors with gusty back to wall innings the last couple matches. Dwyer previously has opened the batting for the Under 19s.

The selectors are hoping allow with Hopgood and Luff, they can see off the Australia's opening bowlers and allow the more attack minded batsmen down the order to play their natural games. In turn provide the tourist with a more substantial total or provide a greater platform for a chase.

With the series still up for graps Cricket Web will be looking to start again and forgot the previous matches and push for a series win with a win in the 2nd YODI.

Deserved to be dropped, really. After that 50 in the first tour match I've done little of note. Hopefully I'll be back for the 5 day matches, that's where I really shine.

A rejuvenated Cricket Web side, led by an inspired captaincy decision to bowl first and a splitting spell from Ethan McNamara, took a comfortable victory on a very difficult Melbourne wicket. Overnight rain had made the pitch a spitting nightmare, but the umpires decided to go along with the game, and Hopgood, Luff and Australia's number 10 Robson showed that it was possible to make good runs.

The hosts never looked comfortable after being inserted, edging their way against Forner and McNamara, who bowled hostile inswingers with varying pace. Murphy hooked on 15 trying to ease the pace and score his third boundary; instead, McMeekin took a fine catch and McNamara roared through Hughes and Wade to provoke disarray in the Australian camp. At the end of his ten, the hosts were five for 69, and essentially beaten already.

Changes of bowling and pace were key on this wicket, and undid for the remainder of the stubborn batting line-up, though the last five partnerships nearly scored double of the first five. Despite this, Michael Hill's 19 was the highest innings, and extras with 16 made it into third place, largely due to McNamara's line being off as he wore himself down. The total of 146 did not look challenging, and the chase was not particularly adventurous, as Hopgood and Luff's early charge sparked a bowling change after just seven overs; both batsmen eased into their stride as the opening partnership yielded 81, and though Hopgood's 80-ball innings came to a soft end and there were late incisions from spinner Burns, Read could strike the winning runs after coming in with the scores tied.

Nice just what we needed to get this tour back on track, well done to all the bowlers especially McNamara. Also good to see the opener get us off to a good start. Would have been nice if the middle order finished it off more comfortable, but the pitch wasn't that easy to get in on.

Anyways, great effort. Finally the bowlers played a match on tour! Well done to McNamara and Pares, and handy effort from Reddla's. Was nice to start the chase in such comfortable fashion, too.

Hopefully the side gels for the rest of the tour. This match was vitally important, well won.

T'was a good bowling effort, no doubt. Thought we probably could've kept a few more wickets chasing down 150-odd, but nevertheless.
