Australia Under-19s vs Cricket Web Under-19s
    at Allan Border Field

    Scorecard
    Ball By Ball

The tour of Australia continues with dismal results, as Australia easily chased down 184 on a pitch suitable for quick, meaty bowlers with height. Matthew Day had a field day with the new ball, ripping out Luff and McMeekin as he beat them for pace, and only Ben Read was able to get on top of the bowlers, fighting back exquisitely from 60 for four.

It was a largely spineless performance from the young Webheads, though the quality of opening bowling prevented them from running away early. Mark Hopgood edged a couple of fours, but was eventually caught at second slip for thirteen, and though the captain survived the opening spell with Kerr, he went once a bowling change had been completed. In short, the Webheads were routed, and Chris Dwyer's 80-ball approach - yielding only 33 runs - was, while effective in not getting out and helping the Webheads to face fifty overs, not really helpful in the context of providing a damaging total.

As it turned out, Murphy and Sarna could canter to the total of 183. They hardly provided a chance, sticking together with grim composure as they added 178 for the first wicket and showed that the Youth Test matches would be difficult too. The only athletic exertion was the way they ran their singles; only twenty of the 176 runs came to the boundary, yet there was plenty of stick to be had for the spinners and a bleak Blake Donald. In short, a large question mark will accompany the team bus as the Webheads head for Melbourne tonight.

Cricket Web Under-19s 183 for nine (50 overs)
BS Read 40; SN Austin 3-45, MR Day 2-24, DJ Burns 2-39

    Australia Under-19s 184 for one (45 overs)
    AK Sarna 86*, D Murphy 86; GM Roberts 1-20 (8)
    Messi scores on the rebound.

Not much else to say there but that was very poor. The batsmen didn't apply themselves and bowler still can't take any wickets regardless of who we bowl. Only positive is that our strike bowler Dunn back for the next couple games.

Really poor effort, I think we would be better off forgetting about that game and moving on to the next one. Bowlers have been struggling, but it's hard to expect much when the batsmen don't get enough runs on the board.

    Shocking.

Need more resilience than that. Everyone went missing when the tough got going. Looking forward to a more gutsy effort in the second match.

Terrible performance, although that's the best I've bowled so far on tour.

Poor performance in that game. Really disappointed in my inability to take wickets.

Despite being a poor pitch, I think the batsmen didn't do enough. But surely we should have taken more than 1 wicket?

The bowling under pressure, it seems.
Sreesanth said, "Next ball he was beaten and I said, 'is this the King Charles Lara? Who is this impostor, moving around nervously? I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."
