New South Wales all rounder Simon Keen will captain the Australian Under 19s against the touring Cricket Web Under 19s. But the big news the selection of Australian Academy batsmen Phillip Hughes and Micheal Hill who both have been released from an Emerging Nationals Tournment involving sides from New Zealand, South Africa and India to take part in this series.

No less then eight players in this squad have received Rookie State contracts for the next season. With many players from Australia looking to use this series to push their chances of 2nd XI spots in State sides, with a couple players in line for 1st XI duty as well.

    Australia Under 19 Squad Announce:

Simon Keen [captain] (New South Wales), Phillip Hughes [vice captain] (New South Wales) , Shaun Austin (Queensland), Daniel Burns (New South Wales), Nathan Coulter-Nile (Western Australia), Matthew Day (New South Wales), James Faulkner (Tasmania), Michael Hill (Victoria), David Murphy (New South Wales), Dom O’Brien (Queensland), James Pattinson (Victoria), Kumar Sarna (Victoria), James Smith (South Australia)

Would have been nice to win that game but our bowling wasn't very threatening. Great innings from McMeekin.

Injuries and late arrivals force changes

Australian Under 19 have been forced into making some late changes to their squad after two key fast bowlers James Pattinson and Nathan Coulter-Nile broke down at training yesterday. Their position in the squad have been taken by left arm spinner Shaun Robson and seamer Jeremy Smith.

But the big news was the return of Victorian recuit and experienced Under 19 keeper batsmen Matthew Wade to the squad. Wade returned earlier then expected from his slint playing club cricket in England. Wade was expected to return for the Four Day leg of the tour. But choice to return early to increase his changes of jumping ahead of Adam Croswaite in the keeping stakes at Victoria this season. Wade return also means he will take over the captaincy from Simon Keen. His return means that Australia's Top 6 may contain six contracted State players for next season.

Sorry for the delay. Blame books and random net disconnects (which also caused the lack of file uploads; scorecard and ball by ball attached)

Queensland Under-19s vs Cricket Web Under-19s
    at Allan Border Field, Brisbane

Despite a compact hundred from Matt Luff, the rest of the side failed to turn up, falling to the medium pace of Matheson and excellent knocks from Kemp and Rabnott as Queensland recorded a confident eight-wicket victory. From a platform of 65 for nought, the Webheads failed to keep up the scoring rate, despite Luff seeking out the boundary eleven times.

Luff had the benefit of luck, but was by far the most confident batsmen of the tourists, daring to play shots and getting away with it for an unbeaten 113. He was, however, tied down by spinner Martel, who also came up with the vital wickets of a belligerent Ben Read and captain Zac Ritchie to set back the efforts of the tourists before the death.

As in Sydney, the bowling stuck to basics, without ever providing the necessary zip. After working opener Murray Nicol out with a short ball, gloved through to the keeper, Pares and Forner could not deliver pressure, nor could the change bowlers. Ten overs of spin were also desperately inefficient, and both Alex Kemp and Nathan Rabnott milked boundaries at a rapid rate to secure victory with eight overs to spare.

Cricket Web Under-19s 232 for seven (50 overs)
MD Luff 113*; BM Matheson 3-43, TA Martel 2-48

    Queensland Under-19s 233 for two (41.2 overs)
AR Kemp 102*, ND Rabnott 96

Queensland Under-19s won by eight wickets
Man of the Match: A. R. Kemp (Queensland U-19s)

Excellent performace by Luff, not so excellent from the rest.

Probably need to get into second gear before we hit the national side.

Disappointed from a personal point of view, but it's good to see luffy carrying on his excellent OD form. Should really have had more support, and we should've scored 250+
