CricketWeb Unchanged

After a nail bitting win in the Youth Test against Zimbabwe, CW Under 19 Selectors have kept faith in the XI players that took the field and have named an unchanged XI for the 1st Youth Test against South Africa at LC de Villiers Oval, Pretoria.

Matt Luff, James Mathus-Howell, Nick Scott, Matt Pitt, Shan Jasotharan, Zac Ritchie, Stephen Burke (wk), Matt Currie, Nick Hancock (vc), Andy Cameron (c), Kev Goughy, 12th man: Nitin Dravid

Cricket Web U/19 Cruise To Victory

In bizarre, Glenn McGrath like fashion Zac Ritchie went to hospital to have his achilles tendon looked at after an awkward, and very painful, pre-match warm up incident. Ritchie took no part in the game and the 12th man, Nitin Dravid, took his place. With the competition for places extreme, Dravid took his chance with both hands as he went on to score a fine century to set up a comprehensive victory for the Cricket Web XI.

Andy Cameron won the toss and elected to bat at the de Villiers oval in Pretoria and all batsmen got starts. Luff (54), Malthus-Howell (51), Scott (47) and Currie (46) massed on the runs along with Dravid (110) before the CW team were finally all out for 438.

The South African woes continued from ball to bat, as they were cheaply dismissed for 228 and facing the follow on. Only two batsmen made it out past twenty, Levi with a magnificant rear-guard ton, and Elgar (44).
Wickets were shared between Goughy, Cameron and Matt Currie, who cleaned up the tail to end up with 4 for 57.

The second innings didn't get any better for the South Africans, once again being bowled out for a sub 300 score, with Matt Currie ending with 5 for 66, and Andy Cameron with 4 for 65. Leaving the junior Webheads just 82 to win.

Luff and Malthus-Howell, quite the sound combination now, set the win up in good time on the final day .. leaving the CW team one up in the series by a comfortable 7 wicket win.

Man of the Match : Nitin Dravid [110 (171)]

Bad luck on the injury Ricthie, hoping you make a quick recovery for both the Under 19 team, and for Red :)

Well played guys a very good team effort, Dravid was brilliant with the bat superb hundred. Luff and Howler are putting together some good opening partnerships. The bowling of Goughy and Cameron was brilliant and Currie made the most some slightly helpful conditions.

Injury Scares

Recent developments from the Cricket Web Under 19 camp lead to an official statement about the injury scare of Zac Ritchie, by Cricket Web Under 19 selector, Travis Demeza.

"Zac landed awfully wrong on his ankle in the pre-match warm up. There was no serious tendon damage, and it was just a bad sprain. We are hoping for him to be ready by the next youth test against thh South Africans."

Good news for young Zac, and the rest of the team. Headaches now for the selectors for the 2nd test.
