Ireland Under-19 v Cricket Web Under-19
at Stormont, Belfast

The hosts put up a solid performance at Stormont, carried by Eoin Morgan, as the Middlesex batsman recorded a splendid century, frustrating the Webhead bowlers. Andy Cameron had put the new ball to good use, claiming two wickets, and at 40 for 3, everyone in the small crowd expected the predictable collapse. However, Andrew Poynter stuck around with Morgan, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 133 against all the Webheads could throw at them. Though a double strike from Paddy Gundry threatened to have them all out before the over allotment, Morgan held on well with Hall, and the Irish eventually posted a competitive target of 233.

The chase was never hurried, and after the opening stand of 116, most Webheads relaxed. It was, however, a little too early. The return of seamer Niall McDarby saw the end of Jasotharan, six short of his century, and neither Ben Vaughan nor Stephen Burke looked particularly assured at the crease, perishing for 4 and 0 respectively. With five wickets down, the Webheads still required 37 to win, with 44 balls remaining.

Nick Scott removed all doubt from the chase, however. Keeping the strike with a single to face the slow bowler Poynter in the 44th over, he duly slapped Poynter for three identical boundaries, reducing the equation to 23 off 33. In the 49th over, he then ensured victory by pulling Kidd over square leg, and the ball sailed a couple of metres over an aerial Eoin Morgan before landing beyond the boundary for six. A nervy warm-up was over, though the Webheads will need to play much better against World Cup semi-finalists England.

Ireland Under-19 232 for 5 (50 overs)
Cricket Web Under-19 235 for 5 (48.2 overs)
Cricket Web Under-19 won by five wickets
Man of the Match: Nick Scott

Psyched to start the tour so well, but must say Jasotharan was probably more influential, but I'll take the award anyway.

Big chance to get into some touch for the team in our next outing.

CB Benjamin was the one you listed as allrounder replacement, wasn't it? Go with him, then.

Well played by the top 3 in the order, and a solid bowling effort. Morgan is as good a batsman as anyone England's mob will throw at us.
