CW Red Season XII Awards

It seems we finally have some award winners to announce. It was quite a year for CW Red, claiming our first ever trophy with a stirring victory in the 5 Day Final over the Blue Baggers. Unfortunately our One Day season wasn't quite so successful just missing out on making the final after our last match ended in a draw.

The first award is for the 5 Day Batsmen of the season. In Season X1I of the CW Development League, David Kearsley was quite simply outstanding with the bat for CW Red. When we needed a man to stand up and be counted, Kears was the man, scoring a mammoth 1445 runs @ 57.8. Well done David Kearsley, CW Red 5 Day Batsmen of the season.

Next up, is the 5 Day Bowler of the season. With yet another stellar season, CW Red's devastating duo of Dave's terrorised many a batsmen in the Dev League, however this season, it was Kennett variety who would walk away with the most scalps under his belt, with 66 @ 28.6, and the prize for the CW Red 5 Day bowler of the season. Congratulations David Kennett.

The final 5 Day award for season XII, is of course the CW Red 5 Day player of the season. This season, the award goes to a man who turned his career around. After a poor season XI, where starts were all the rage, but the finishing touch was lacking, David Kearsley rectified that problem, and made the most of his fantastic starts, as he led the CW Red team into the final with numerous stellar innings with the bat in hand. The CW Red 5 Day player of the season is David Kearsley.

Our next award is for the One Day batsmen of the season. After showing us glimpses of his potential with a solid rookie season XI at the top of the innings, Matt Luff turned that potential into results this season as he stamped his name at the top of the CW Red OD order. With 766 runs @ 51.06 Luff was really the only batsmen to make the most of his opportunity on a consistent basis, and is a deserving winner of the CW Red One Day Batsmen of the season award.

The next award is the One Day bowler of the season. The deadly pairing of Kennett & Watt again dominated the CW Red wicket taking for season XII One Day cricket. However this time it would be David Watt who would take the honours with the CWXI OD seamer bagging 26 wickets @ 15.58 with an economy rate of 4.67.

When all the votes were tallied, it came down to 2 men for the CW Red One Day player of the season, and it was Matt Luff who walked home with the trophy. Luff's consistency at the top of the order so often gave the CW Red bowlers a target to bowl at, after the rest of the batting crumbled around him. Well done Matt Luff, CW Red OD player of the season.

3 Rookies made their debut for the team of the mighty Red Star in season XII, however only 1 of them would take home the award for the CW Red rookie of the season. This year it would be tearaway fast bowler Muhammad Amir who claimed the award. It was the fantastic start to the season with some fine spells against the top Dev League batsmen that stitched up the award for Amir, before finishing the season in solid, if unspectacular fashion.

This leads me to the announcement of the CW Red Overall Player of the Season. This particular player was simply outstanding in both forms of the game for the majority of the season. He ran in tirelessly to unleash hell upon the opposition batsmen, and despite an indifferent finish to the FC season, he kept his head up, and steamed on in giving his all for CW Red. The Season XII, CW Red Overall Player of the Season, is David Watt.

The Final award of season XII is the captains award, and Captain Mørk has prepared this speech for us.

Code:
For the [B]captain's award[/B], I wish to reward someone who has been a
fervent participant in our Red army, despite not often getting the
chance to play with the star on his chest. He's nevertheless been one
of the hardest workers in training sessions, occasionally brightened
up tough grade cricket for his local Edfield, and was finally given a
shout at impressing in the first-class final after decent performances
throughout the season.

The result? The man dismissed three Test players and an ODI regular,
ran singles like a Duracell rabbit as we built a first-innings lead,
and put up the game of his life for a Man of the Match winning
performance as the Red won their first title. Here's an award to a man
who will hopefully put out many more similar performances wearing the
Red badge; step forth, [B][COLOR="Red"]Gaurav Nayak[/COLOR][/B].

Håkon
That wraps the CW Red awards night for season XII, congratulations to all awards winners, and of course to the rest of the squad for what has finally been a trophy winning season for CW Red.

Congratulations to all award winners, and a special mention to that guy whose name I can never remember. You'll always be in our hearts, if not our minds.
