Liam, in future, instead of having the 5 main bowlers bowl 30+ overs each could you throw it to Markus or Arnold or even Me and Cloete. I'm pretty sure I had that down in my original bowling tactics as something to do when things like that are occuring.

No biggies, but yeah.
Thing is, every time I was about to give Markus a bowl, one of the main bowlers took a wicket or created a chance.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Black
Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Ian Markus dismantled the Cricket Web Blue attack, and another strong batting performance highlighted a dominant win for a revitalized Cricket Web Black one-day outfit. Markus got to 100 from 92 balls and the ease with which the Blacks achieved their 7-wicket win adequately matched the embarrassment of their Blue counterparts.

Camps had the right idea when he chose to bat first on winning the toss, considering the poor record that the Blacks have had chasing decent totals this season. And Pete Young scored 92 from 132 balls to continue a fruitful one-day season and ensure that it was indeed a good total on the board for CW Blue. Dinu DeSilva (45) and Ben Wilshere (46) were the other two healthy contributors, and the latter in particular sparkled throughout a 33-ball innings. Again Dave Richards, taking 2 for 44, was the most impressive of CW Black bowlers, but Kev Gough's stunning death spell kept the Blues in check. For the third time in four matches, Gough completed a 5-wicket haul, this time taking 4 wickets in his final spell and ending with 5 for 56 from his 8 overs.

CW Blue were all out for 264, crucially with 3 overs to spare. Any additional runs scored would likely have been inconsequential, however, given the manner in which CW Black set about their innings. Each of the openers collected a six as the opening two overs went for 23 runs. The carnage continued, even after Stedman was caught at mid-on for 34. Dunn's next over cost 10 and May-Quinlan gave up 11 with the 13th. Camps then deceived and dismissed Cloete with a slower ball in his first over. It served to allow Chaulk a chance to express himself and press for Goff's much-desired one-day international batting spot.

Chaulk and Markus initially pushed the ball about to establish a positive partnership, but after Dunn returned with an impressive over, the batsmen elected to shift gears. In Dunn's next over he was whipped over square leg by Markus for six, then Chaulk lofted Cribb over long-off for six more. The medium pace of DeSilva was tried, but he disappeared for 13. Markus finally played a shot too many and was caught skying the ball to deep cover, but by then only 28 runs were needed from the final 64 balls. Furthering the expanse of the insult and injury, Armstrong clubbed Camps back overhead for six to get off the mark. As Chaulk later flicked Dunn for 2 runs, CW Black won with 34 balls to spare.

Cricket Web Blue 264 all out (47 overs)
PE Young 92 [132], BL Wilshere 46 [33], MW DeSilva 45 [55]
KJ Gough 5-56 [8], ZE Gelman 2-43 [7], DP Richards 2-44 [10]

Cricket Web Black 265-3 (44.2 overs)
I Markus 108 [111], AP Chaulk 89* [97], JE Stedman 34 [36]
LA Camps 2-53 [10]

Cricket Web Black won by 7 wickets.

Cricket Web Red v Cricket Web Colts
Fardin Qayyumi CC

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

The Colts came close to chasing a healthy total by Cricket Web Red, but an intelligent bowling performance by Kingsley Clapham and Marc Robbins ensured that the home team ended a defeated force. The hosts attacked a target of 272 with a well-paced effort for the most part, but faded at the end to lose by 16 runs.

Shan Jasotharan and Chris Butler powered through the middle overs and placed the Colts handily at 152-2 after 27 overs. Bennett recalled Clapham and the left-armer knocked over Butler's middle stump, as he backed away to play through the offside. Pooja Bharat errupted on her arrival and the crease, scoring two fours and a six off the following Bennett over. But in another masterstroke, Bennett handed the ball to Robbins, whose first spell produced figures of 4-0-27-0. The wily medium pacer bowled a tidy line and length, then suckered Bharat into a lofted drive. Graciously, Bennett clutched onto the ball at cover. An over later Bennett took another catch, this time at slip, and Kerr walked for a duck. When Hancock nicked Clapham to Gray five balls later, the Colts innings looked utterly spent.

Jasotharan did his best to keep his team's hopes alive, but was forced to reel in his natural aggression. Wickets continued to fall far too regularly for the Colts to challenge. Flinging himself one-handed to his left at backward point, Kenny Dobson put the result out of question, catching Jasotharan 2 short of his hundred. Bochat managed to unleash one of his now trademarked straight sixes down the ground, but the game ended when McNamara tried to do the same, and only succeeded in supplying Luff with his second catch of the innings.

Earlier Luff's extraordinary batting was hugely instrumental in CW Red's score of 271-5. The assault did not start until the fifth over of the game, and by then Luff had laboured for 9 runs from 19 balls. For the rest of his innings he faced 135 balls and scored 134 runs. In total Luff peppered the boundary on 15 occasions and cleared it twice. He scored 143 in one of the finest of innings at the Fardin Qayyumi CC. Not to be forgotten are the hands played by the steady Dobson (35) and then the urgent Dauth (57). And at the end of the innings David Kearsley added some lasting impetus, striking a four and a six in 18 from 7 balls. Again the spinners shone brightest for the Colts, but Bochat continues to make a name for himself as a death bowler of quality.

As we approach the final stretch of the season, CW Red will take great heart in such a victory, crucially narrowing the gap in the chase of Cricket Web Green, who did not play today.

Cricket Web Red 271-5 (50 overs)
MD Luff 143 [154], RJ Dauth 57 [69], GKK Dobson 35 [59]
T Bochat 2-63 [10], TV Weber 1-30 [10]

Cricket Web Colts 255 all out (48.5 overs)
S Jasotharan 98 [129], CR Butler 51 [49], DP Towns 28 [35]
KR Clapham 3-43 [10], DM Kennett 2-48 [9.5]

Cricket Web Red won by 16 runs.
Man of the Match: MD Luff

Ian Markus pulls up after hundred
When Markus holed out to cover to end his epic innings against Cricket Web Blue, it appeared he had done himself some slight injury. However, closer examination by CW Black physiotherapist reveals the injury as more severe. Markus will now miss 7 game days with a pulled hamstring.

Kickboxing gone wrong for Das and Thompson
Cricket Web Colts' Arunava Das and Cricket Web Red's Callum Thompson will miss 2 matches each, after they were involved in a kickboxing accident, training together on the morning after the game at the Fardin Qayyumi CC. Thompson kicked Das in the jaw, resulting in a broken heel and fractured jaw respectively.

Not fairing too well at the moment in the OD arena. However, we're not doing that badly on the table and a quick reversal of fortune and we can put ourselves back in contention. Fine innings from Jaso. We really need to look at our OD bowling.
