Would have been nice to bowl like that in the Champions Trophy... well, never mind, past is the past, always nice to give Blue a good stuffing. Everything back on track now, well, until the board decide to dock Black 18 points for being Black, or something.

Cricket Web Blue v Cricket Web Red
CW Oval

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Cricket Web Red played as best as they could to continue a frustrating season for Cricket Web Blue, chasing 342 to win by 6 wickets on a difficult pitch. The previous three innings saw 763 runs scored for the loss of 30 wickets, but the Reds rose to occasion and took advantage of some sloppy fielding by the Blues, romping home comfortably in the end.

For the first time this season the CW Oval pitch was true to its reputation as advantageous to seam bowlers. The stacked seam attack of CW Red shared all 10 wickets in the first innings. Though Pete Young (91) was brave at the top of the order, none other raised a hand in support. The Blues crumbled to 67-4, and it was not until Sean Fuller came to the crease at number six that they ever looked in contention. Fuller scored a patient 79, and was followed by Rob Bowen (46) and Liam Camps (22 not out) with similarly fighting innings en route to 311 all out. Travis Demeza continued his excellent batting form with a 47-ball stay for 4 runs.

Things got no easier when the Reds came to the crease. With his place under fire Travis Demeza produced a stunning early spell to leave the home side reeling. From 77-4, David Kearsley and Marc Robbins mounted a recovery with fighting haf-centuries, but Demeza and May-Quinlan returned to dismantle the lower order. The fast bowlers shared 8 wickets between them, and CW Red surrendered an even 100 runs on first innings, all out for 211. But no lead was safe on such a sporting pitch. The Red fast bowlers got to work again. This time Dave Watt rose to the fore, taking 5 for 62 in the innings.

The top three batsmen perished for single digit scores, then Crampton and Cribb mounted a minor recovery. At the fall of the former, another slide was set into motion. Fuller and Bowen were out for 8 and 9 respectively, with Cribb was caught at fine leg for 49. Sensing his responsibility, Camps batted with the reliable Adam Collins in an outstanding recovery effort. From 109-7, they carried the score to 205 when Camps was caught at cover for 73. May-Quinlan then joined in the fight. He scored 19, while Collins was ultimately dismissed for 34. CW Blue got to the heights of 241 all out, setting up a tantalizing chase of 342 for the Reds.

A 65-run stand set a good platform at the dismissal of Mørk for 17. Aseem Sharma came to the crease and was quickly dropped by Bowen for 9. It would prove one of many costly misses for Blue. Luff and Sharma commanded the Blue bowling attack in putting on 90 runs in 16.5 overs. Collins crucially dislodged Sharma for 58 and the Blues climbed back into competition when Demeza dismissed Dauth and Luff in quick succession. At 198-4, CW Red still needed 144 runs to win. At the start of the final day, Kearsley and Robbins had reduced that requirement to 121. When he had 48, Kearsley edged Fuller to Crampton, where the wicketkeeper floored a simple chance. He added 24 to his personal tally, then Cribb dropped him off Camps. The frustration mounted and Kearsley advanced to 97 not out with the winning boundary. At his side was the always clutch Robbins, who scored 42.

Cricket Web Black v Cricket Web Green
CWBCC Stadium

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Two powerful batting lineups clashed at the CWBCC Stadium and produced a thrilling lowscoring affair, with Cricket Web Black edging past Cricket Web Green by 4 wickets. Ashley Arnold played one of his finest innings in an exceptional debut season, batting through the chase to score 85 not out from 106 balls. CW Black only chased 175 for victory, but given the match context and pitch state, the task was an arduous one.

Garven chose to bat first in perfect conditions, but was soon pictured stunned by a brilliant opening burst from Nath Patrick. Garven was victim of a succession of wickets that saw the Greens struggling at 33-4 when Lezama was out for 23. It took a magnificent hundred from Bryce Cunningham, featuring only 3 fours and a six, to spare the blushes of CW Green. Cunningham played for 104 in a total of 230 all out. The next best score was a paltry, but hard-fought, 26 by Martyn Corrin. Patrick responded to his captain's pressure-infused pre-match comments, taking 5-30 in the innings, his first 5-wicket haul of the season.

Rose took a cue from his former Cricket Web XI teammate, and he too shone with the ball, taking 4 for 35 in the CW Black 1st innings. For a while Ian Makus (40) and Ash Chaulk (31) looked to be turning the game to Black advantage from a score of 52-4. But with 116 on the board Chaulk inexplicably cut Cunningham into the lap of Garven at point. Markus and Gelman followed soon after lunch, then Richards and Borcich rebuilt with a 47-run stand. There was help from the fielders though, most notably Dubb-Lynch, who dropped Richards thrice in his innings. The allrounder went on to score 48 and guided CW Black to a respectable 213 all out. Spin was starting to have its say with Gundry taking 3 wickets to bring about the end.

And after the seamers broke the Green top order again, Richards kicked the door wide open in spinning through the middle and lower order. Only Garven stood up with 53, playing a true captain's innings. But even he could not keep out Richards, and was bowled by a sharp arm ball. CW Green were all out for 157, leaving a target of 175 for CW Black.

Arnold stated intent in the 2 over spell before lunch, lashing Cunningham up and over third man for six. Four overs into the next session, Smith was bowled offstump by Rose. Dubb-Lynch dropped Cloete after he had raced to 23 from 17 balls - his fourth missed chance of the game - but clutched onto an edge soon after. Cloete walked for 25 and the game got very interesting when Armstrong was caught at second slip for 6 just 15 runs later - 67-3. The tactics were clear while Markus was at the crease. His 31 came from 27 balls and he threatened to take the game away from the Greens in quick time. Halsey had the last say, however, as Markus was caught behind trying to cut a legbreak. Four balls later, Chaulk was caught at slip without scoring.

Suddenly the game got new legs with 73 still needed and 5 wickets in hand. Gelman never looked comfortable, but stuck in for 39 balls and 8 runs to allow Arnold to rush CW Black closer to victory. Rose returned to grab the wicket of Gelman, allowing Richards to play another monumental innings. When he entered 27 runs were needed. He scored 11 runs in partnership with Arnold, and handed over to his rookie partner to smash the winnings runs - a lofted cover drive for a boundary.

That was a solid comeback.

Can't give enough superlatives to Kears - well played - and Raghav bowled solidly on return, if not very spectacular results. Kennett and Watt led as always. Props to Luff and Sharma, even though the latter seems hell-bent on throwing away starts.

Great effort boys :)

Ash's innings = immense, Nathy = frightening, and Dav's second innings spell = just magic.

BARNES OUT
Arnie! Saved my bacon, what a pick up he's been. Patto repaying the faith, and Gelman bowling well enough to keep his place. A great display from Richards as well, quite a valuable all-rounder.

Still no ducks in my FC career (H)
