Season 9 Squad Compilation

I began sorting out the squads for the new season today and I quickly realized that several changes must be made to ensure a balance of sorts. The majority of the rookies will play for the Colts, but there are a couple who fill gaps in teams.

I'd like captains - MJ Robbins (Red), NS Pickup (Black), AJ Garven (Green), LA Camps (Blue) to start discussing with their squads as to what sort of composition they'd like for next season. The reality is that some players will have to change to a new squad.

There is no contract system within Dev League cricket, so all players are essentially free agents at the end of the season. The only thing binding a person to a particular club would be some issue of loyalty, but in the large scheme of things, it doesn't matter what colour or club you play for, once there's good opportunity to get game time there.

Some of the notable moves which will likely come to pass:

KS Wright (Red) to the Colts as a prime captaincy candidate. Discussions are ongoing.
- experienced head and a good person to lead an inexperienced bowling attack.
DP Towns (Green) to the Colts.
- solid batsman who will get more consistent playing time with the Colts. Move made due to abundance of batsmen in the Green squad.
GS Gooljar (Green) to the Colts.
- legspinner will get more playing time with the Colts. Move made due to abundance of spin talent in the Green squad.

CW RED
Without Wright in Red, there will still be 4 good pacers (Watt, Cameron, Kennett, Borcich), unless there is some agreement before squads are finalized that sees one or more of them moving to a new club. The intention is to add another spin talent to the Reds, to accompany Bennett.

Gray acts as the backup wicketkeeper and adds to the batting talent, which is pretty secure with 8 quality batting options, added to one allrounder (Bennett).

CW GREEN
Lezama is the main 'keeper. Garven acts as the second gloveman, unless he wishes not to, in which case adjustments will be made to the squad to accomodate. P Bharat enters the system with Green as an additional batting option. This gives 8 quality batting options with 5 allrouners, 3 of which are spinners.

Jennings is the lone specialist spinner in the squad, with Weber (somehow :p) qualifying as an allrounder. Hoy and Rose serve as the specialist seamers (not discrediting batting ability).

CW BLUE
Jellett and Crampton are the wicketkeeping options. Patrick, Collins and Demeza are the main seamers, as the specialists. Fuller and Camps are seam bowling allrounders.

A question lies in the spin department. The team can't carry as many spinners as there are in the squad currently. At least one of Halsey, Loganathan, Popat must move to a new squad to keep a balance. The PDV Dome is too quick for so many spinners.

I'd like one of Halsey, Loganathan, Popat to step up to be moved to a new squad (likely Black). It would make the decision easier.

CW BLACK
Pickup, Richards and Broadbent are the specialist bowling options, with Broadbent the only specialist seamer. Jason Toogood makes his return to Dev League cricket with Black. Wilson and Thompson are seam bowling allrounders.

Black needs at least 4 more players to be added for a full complement. JJ Josy may be one of those.

COLTS
RT Verghese and SJ Burke are the wicketkeeping options. Four spinning options and 6 seam bowling options, only 2 of which are specialists - KS Wright and GM Thomas.

---

So that's the situation so far. As you can see, there's still a lot to be done in terms of adjustments. All players who weren't mentioned as otherwise can assume that they're tentatively still in the same squad. All unassigned players who haven't been mentioned as otherwise can assume they're in Colts.

If Red need another spinner and Blue have to many wouldn't blue to red be the better move?

Halsey is a more accomplished spinner than Bennett. He should displace him in the first XI, you'd think. That wouldn't be fair really. Also consider, Black has better spinning conditions and Halsey would take the front line spot when Neil Pickup is on international duty, which will be more often than Bennett is as things stand.

Black also needs players in general. If a spinner moves to Red, it'd be one of the other two.

Considering Sudeep and Halz are regulars at Blue, i would be willing to make way to not affect team harmony. My preference is to play for Red as i would love to bowl at the other end to the great Sean Bennett :D, but i will let the captains or board decide which team they like me to go to.

if Halsey comes to Black, then one of he, Neil and Myself won't get a game, whilst in OD cricket thats fair enough as i'm pretty atrocious, in FC cricket I would be dissapointed to be on the sidelines and i'm sure Tom would the same given he is the 2nd choice spinnner for the CW XI

I don't think it's right to have the 3 best spinners in the system on one team?
Whilst it's worryingly Hintonesque to be ending a sentence with a question mark - sort it out, Jamee, your GCSEs are in ten months' time - I have to agree.

Really not a smart idea - what I want is one of the Reds' seamers.

It was kind of a question and statement in one, so I question-marked it to emphasize the question.
