To present the batting awards for Season 8, esteemed New Zealand specialist, Hamish Marshall.

"The award for best 5D batsman in CWLand this season goes to, by an overwhelming margin of 17 votes over the closest competitor..... Simon Fitzsimmons of Cricket Web Blue!"

Tears. Joy. <Insert Simon's speech here.> Tears.

"The race for OD batsman of the season was far closer, with a veteran and a rookie battling all the way down to the wire for the top spot. In the end though, experience won out and Cricket Web Green's Brendon Goff takes the award by a 3-vote margin!"

More tears. A bit more joy. Another speech <Brendon Goff>. Waterworks.

thanks guys, ill try and be modest! i would have been disapointed not to have won the award, but stranger things have happened. My form this season was better than i probably could have dreamed of. To have made 7 centuries is very satisfying. Its just a shame how poor CW Blue did. I was expecting to have gone a lot better, particuarly in the First Class game, after winning the title in season 7. Well done to the othr guys, particularly Hakon who had a great breakthough season, im delighted to be opening the batting with him in the test side now and hopefully we can bother continue to have seasons like that in the future and lift the CW test side into a better position than we have been in past...

Now onto the bowling awards.

The nominees are:

5D Bowler of the Season
Rob Timewell (Cricket Web Green)
Impressive accuracy, aggression and pace were characteristic of Timewell's contributions this season. In his first full season of Dev League cricket, despite being around for two before, Timewell proved his worth to play a significant part in the early momentum of Green, which ultimately won the Dev League 5D Title.

124 wickets @ 19.24
SR: 46.05
5w: 4
10w: 2
BB: 7/32

Sangrah Bhatia (Cricket Web Black)
As hardworking as ever, Bhatia led the Blacks completely and entirely, investing all his heart into his bowling. Bowling almost 1000 more overs than his closest competitor, Bhatia proved extremely fit and willing to play the central role for the Black attack.

114 wickets @ 22.75
SR: 58.64
5w: 7
10w: 1
BB: 6/54

Dave Watt (Cricket Web Red)
An inspired comeback from an indifferent start to his season lead Dave Watt to a deserved nomination. Watt took off down the stretch for Red to take 34 wickets in his last 6 games, including some spectacular hauls. Pace and heart characterized his performance completely.

64 wickets @ 26.67
SR: 52.45
5w: 4
10w: 1
BB: 7/54

Nathan Hoy (Cricket Web Green)
Consistency was the key to Hoy's second season. Following up a hugely impressive rookie year, Hoy quietly chipped away at the opposition batsmen, taking wickets with good pace and accuracy. He was overshadowed by Timewell through most of the season, but still managed to near 100 wickets, despite only taking 2 5-wicket hauls.

92 wickets @ 22.80
SR: 66.76
5w: 2
10w: 1
BB: 5/43

Travis Demeza (Cricket Web Blue)
For pure wicket-taking ability Demeza gains his nomination. Finishing as one of the top-ranked bowlers in the league, Demeza had a patchy start and finish to the season, but played a brilliant role in the middle. He took 39 wickets in a 6-game stretch, including a monster 8-wicket innings haul amidst a 12-wicket match bag. Though his economy was at times lacking, brutal pace and aggression made for a successful first season.

74 wickets @ 28.80
SR: 47.41
5w: 4
10w: 2
BB: 8/57

OD Bowler of the Season
Nathan Hoy (Cricket Web Green)
Whilst economy was at times lacking, Hoy set himself apart from the other Dev League bowlers in his ability to take crucial wickets when needed. He finished with the most OD wickets of the season and a fair reputation as one of the most potent bowlers with both new and old ball.

43 wickets @ 23.44
SR: 27.27
Econ: 5.20
5w: 1
BB: 5/64

Nick Borcich (Cricket Web Red)
A solid rookie season saw Borcich finish seventh in the wicket-taking ranks, but did quite a job in his own right. Lively pace and movement overcame an at times lack of accuracy to produce pretty successful figures in an OD season dominated by the bat.

25 wickets @ 28.52
SR: 36.96
Econ: 4.60
5w: 0
BB: 3/37

Chris Broadbent (Cricket Web Black)
Though injured for the start of the season, Broadbent had a huge impact on Black's fortunes. Movement gained in the opening overs of games dictated collapses of substantial nature and made him a force to be reckoned with, even getting a specific mention in the game plan of rival Cricket Web Green.

25 wickets @ 15.44
SR: 17.80
Econ: 5.20
5w: 2
BB: 5/41

Rob Timewell (Cricket Web Green)
As dependable as you'd like, Timewell was one of the more economical seamers of the season. He bowled with spirit and accuracy, but gained sufficient bounce and movement to also be among the top wicket-takers. Variations in the middle overs added to his effectiveness.

28 wickets @ 26.46
SR: 32.89
Econ: 4.80
5w: 0
BB: 3/41

Bryce Cunningham (Cricket Web Green)
Taking up a role as a new ball bowler late in the season, Cunningham did a worthy job and bowled with economy and penetration to help his team to the OD title. Throughout the season he was consistent, bowling at various stages and in various situations, learning well throughout his rookie period.

22 wickets @ 26.23
SR: 32.72
Econ: 4.80
5w: 0
BB: 4/42
