I know I've said it before but Carey making the squad is pure insanity given some of the players that have missed out

Hardly, only other player who they could have realistically taken as a frontline keeper is Wade. I would never trust a non specialist keeper as the main option, not in a million years

Wade would have been an excellent selection

Disagree completely about the non-specialist keeper thing but I think we've had that discussion before

Yeah we have, still cannot comprehend why you would ever want to go that way. It is just a truly appalling idea

no it's not. It's risk/benefit. Benefit of having a much better batsman outweighs the risk of having a slightly worse keeper. You don't agree, that's fine. It's free country and you can be as wrong as you want.

India did it with Dravid in 2003 and it worked pretty well for them, and Dravid was a much worse keeper than Handscomb or Bancroft

Now if we were talking Test cricket then you'd absolutely have a point. You can't be operating with part-time keepers in Tests. I mean Wade is just as good a keeper as Carey in white-ball cricket anyway, it's the longer form where he loses concentration and tends to make more mistakes.

Yeah nah I cannot agree at all, the risk of missed of missed opportunities with the gloves is simply far too high for the idea to even be worth considering. The pressure of a World Cup scenario plays somewhat of a part, I much rather someone who has devoted a vast amount of time and energy into their wickeetkeeping there as opposed to someone who has has only done the job sporadically even at domestic level.

We could probably argue about this one until the World Cup itself starts, but honestly it isn't really achieving much, guess I just have nothing better to do on a Tuesday afternoon

Yeah you need a specialist keeper. Not necessarily a good keeper but a specialist.

With no ***** around there's no-one to comment on that team. I do reckon that bowling will get tonked.

Either way I certainly hope Carey can justify the faith shown in him, Australia needs him to perform
Can definitely agree on that. If we can't have Wade or someone else better, and we're stuck with Carey, then definitely hoping that he performs far above the level that he's shown he's capable of so far.

A Symonds 2003 World Cup-esque rise would be handy

We must remember that Symonds was rubbish for a couple of years before that innings vs Pakistan. But he was gunning it at state level. Carey hasn't been gunning it at state level.

Very interested to see if Amir is picked. Abid and Imad have reportedly failed the fitness test.

I was going to say that Imad might be their best spinner, but his average has blown way out since I last checked, and was surprised to see it was over 40. Even more surprised to see he was born in Swansea, can't be too many Pakistani cricketers born in Wales.

I wonder who they'll pick aside from Shadab, Yasir will get tonked unless the pitches are very dry and dusty.

Has to be Imad. There's no one else. They can't be considering someone like Umer Khan at this point. Was maddening to see Yasir Shah being constantly picked in pre WC games since there's no way he's going to be part of the squad. He's just horrible in ODIs. Imad is a defensive spinner. Think he does his job well and his death over slogging is very underrated. He's better than the other all rounders like Faheem and Shadab with the bat in my opinion. If they go with one spinner it ought to Shadab and there's no one else beside Imad who should be the backup.

There weren't any standout spinners in the OD tournament I think, not even the domestic hax types.
