Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open II
PTA Masters 1000 - Sunday (Qualifying Round) - Madrid, Spain - Clay (Red)
  • Rob Bowenburg has failed to ride into the main draw in Madrid after a loss to France's Christian Mary on Sunday. Bowenburg, who squeezed a three set win over Rafael Fernando yesterday, was favourite to beat Mary following his fine showing in Rome a fortnight ago, but outside of a dominant second set the West CWLander struggled for rhythm. Mary took the pace off the ball and drew too many errors from Bowenburg who collapsed to a 6-7(1), 6-1, 3-6 defeat. It isn't all bad news for The Lob, though, as he's first on the lucky loser list should a player withdraw.

Surely someone must be sore...if not i'll arrange (secretly) for someone to withdraw to get the lob into the contest.

EDIT: don't like Maxum's chances of going deep here - Delev followed by the 5 seed for whoever pulls through doesn't bode well.

With Bruce in the other Challenger I reckon I can win here. Almost made the semi at Estoril and have looked good once I get past the first round it seems.

Bowenburg didn't even make himself available this week. No way did I want to battle it out on the sluggish outside courts just to make it to the first round.

No wonder I lost.
