  • Phoenix Wleft has bounced back from a disappointing last-minute trip to Australia last week to bounce back in Iquique; earning his second Challenger spot through qualification. The DR CWLand player was top seed in qualification, but was forced deep in both of his sets against local Christopher Veas. Ultimately he proved too polished with a 6-4, 7-5 win, and he will look to replicate his great run in Sao Paolo against Canada's Tony Nikolić in the first round.
  • Jack Loughman, meanwhile, had to win two matches after an unlucky draw had him against Marcelo Meneses. Nevertheless, the unranked Federal Republic player breezed past the Chilean wildcard 6-3, 6-4 to move through to the qualifying round. Goran Stefanovic posed a difficult prospect for the youngster, but the Serbian 32-year old was a step behind Loughman who exhibited a backhand well above Challenger qualifying level en route to a 6-2, 7-6(6) upset. After earning his first ranking points, he gets straight underway against another Serbian; unseeded 18-year old Srđan Ivic.
