'sif Drake & Korps won't play Davis Cup doubles after we win CW Open.

Will let Korps select our events I think. Only really want to play DC and the Masters Events, the rest are fair game for him. I've played a fair chunk of tourneys this year so I might take it slow.

Have Mustard and I met Drake/Korpinen in competition yet? And are there still plans afoot to have a CWLand Nationals tournament?

Day 9 - Tuesday - Nixonstown (CWLand)

Men's Singles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4 - Section 5 - Section 6 - Section 7 - Section 8)
Men's Doubles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4)

  • Twelfth seed Jefferson Drake was unable to back up his fourth round performance in the quarters, as he was comfortably beaten by world No. 1 Jason Hall. The American top seed looked unpertubed by the wave of opposiion against him in the crowd, and broke service immediately to take a 2-0 lead. Whilst Drake continued to stick with the favourites, and also broke service in the ninth game, he was unable to return the set to service as Hall took the first with a beautifully crafted point finished with a forehand winner. Any chance of Drake taking the second set was scuffed almost immediately as Hall yet again broke service early before shooting out to a 4-1 lead. Whilst Drake got better as the set went on, he was not able to get the better of his opponent and found himself in dire trouble down two sets to love. He was not able to pull off a dramatic comeback as he did against Rasmus Olesen at Wimbledon; Hall advancing to his third semifinal of the Grand Slam season 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
  • It will be a rematch of the Australian Open final in the semis as two-time Grand Slam finalist Radek Špidlá produced his best tennis this fortnight in the day's earlier quarterfinal. Špidlá had been forced to graft out victories in the earlier rounds, but his hard work paid off in his most confident match in a straight sets win over Rick Henson. The 19th seed stuck with Špidlá in the first two sets, but was unable to effect enough chances on the Czech monster's service to take either set. In his first quarterfinal in Grand Slams this season, the former world No. 3 failed to keep the pressure on in the third as Špidlá secured a 7-4, 6-4, 6-2 win.

  • Seeded players out:
    Jefferson Drake;
    Rick Henson.
  • Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard are through to their second Grand Slam semifinal of the season after they continued their good record against Italian-Moroccan pairing Sandro Bachunelli & Hicham Hadir. The third seeds had beaten the CWLanders in the semis at Wimbledon, before losing their last meeting at Clowich in straight sets; Davis and Mustard building on that form in the opening set as they managed an early break to shoot ahead 3-1. A second break - this time off the Hadir serve - allowed Davis to serve out the first set comfortably as the home team continued to charge toward the semifinals. But there was a twist in the second, as Mustard's service was broken after a classy volley at the net from Hadir wrongfooted the world No. 31 at the baseline to hand the Wimbledon champions a 2-0 lead against the flow of play. However disaster struck, and some quick work from Mustard at the net helped him rectify his dropped service to put Davis and Mustard back into the second set. They broke again, and found themselves serving for the match at 5-4 before the third seeds gave themselves a sniff with a break of the Davis serve. In the tiebreaker, though, it was all CWLand as they rounded out a 6-2, 7-6(3) victory to go closer to securing a spot in the ATP Finals.
  • They have a massive hurdle ahead of them in the semifinals if they are to advance to their first ATP level final with top seeds Hayden & Ross Onwye taking a three-set tussle against fifth seeds Andrej Konc & Evgeniy Maximov. The Montréal and Clowich finalists provided a much better contest than they did a fortnight ago in Garven Island, and found themselves level at 4-4 in the third. But striving for their maiden Grand Slam title, the Moroccans looked too good and set up a clash with their rivals in the semifinals by break the Slovakian's service to secure a 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-4 win.

  • Seeded players out:
    Sandro Bachunelli &
    Hicham Hadir;
    Andrej Konc &
    Evgeniy Maximov.

Challenger results to come later.

Disappointing match from Drake there. Hall looks unstoppable. Just cleaning up.

So, a semi final for Mustard/Davis against the Onwyes. There's a small chance of an all CWLand final if Drake/Korpinen can make the best of their matches, but the Onwye brothers are a massive hurdle. I'll be studying some of their latest games, hoping to find some chinks in their armour.

Dev.

And Ox, I'll go easy in the DC singles, not consistent enough and likely to lose both on a poor streak. Plus I've played way more tennis than you this season.

Devastated for Drake, honestly thought he was going to pull off the upset against Hall.

1st Round - Szczecin (Poland)

Men's Singles (Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's Doubles (Draw)

  • CWLand's Suryakant Singh has won through to the second round in Szczecin after a straight sets win over Spain's Rafael Fernando. The quality player did it the hard way in the first set as Fernando took him to a tiebreaker, but played well enough to pull free to secure it 8-6. In the second set he looked more confident as he used the court well to control play en route to a 7-6(6), 6-1 win. He faces seventh seed Michael De Kinsele in the second round.

  • Seeded players out:
    Aksu Emrem.
PEOPLenet Cup
1st Round - Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine)

Men's Singles (Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's Doubles (Draw)

  • It will be an all-CWLand second round clash in Ukraine after Randy Banks and Matt Bre earned victories in their matches. Banks had perhaps the biggest win of his career in a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 tussle against eighth seeded Swede Henrikk Henrikkson; the youngster building on his form from CW Open qualifying last week with a hard-fought win. Bre, however, had an earier third set against American Waylon Jones. After trading tense sets with the world No. 155, he saved his best tennis for the third set to secure a 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-1 win. The second round clash sees 13 points up for grabs - enough to see Banks close in on the world's top 100.
  • Youngster Marcuss Deane was unable to get the best of Latvia's Ivars Emsis in a hard-hitting first round clash. Deane managed just one break point on the sixth seed's serve (which he converted), and couldn't pull through in the clutch moments of each set as he succumbed to a 6-7(5), 4-6 loss. It was still a promising performance for CWLand's newest acquisition who played his first tournament last week in Cordenons.

  • Seeded players out:
    Henrikk Henrikkson;
    Li Ming-Wang

Good win from Banks, looking forward to him winning more matches and getting that ranking up there so we can play more of the same tournaments and play doubles.

Agree with Si as well, would love to get that ranking up more not only to play more of the same tournaments but just to get into tournaments without having to qualify all the time..

Day 10 - Wednesday - Nixonstown (CWLand)

Men's Singles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4 - Section 5 - Section 6 - Section 7 - Section 8)
Men's Doubles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4)

  • Jamaican sensation Oneil Stewart has become the first unseeded player to make a Grand Slam semifinal after upsetting Denmark's Rasmus Olesen in four sets. Stewart, a quarterfinalist at Roland Garros, came into the match on the back of three victories over seeded opposition, and exuded confidence against the Danish eighth seed. Whilst the Montréal runner up stuck with the Jamaican, Stewart proved too good at the clinch moments as he showed off some of his class and supreme athleticism to race to a two sets to love lead. The world No. 35 has become a sort of cult favourite in CWLand with his personality and aggressive tennis, and managed to rebound from second set disappointment to secure a place in the semifinals with a historic 7-5, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 win.
  • He will face second seed Daniel Páez Blanco in the final after the Spaniard continued in his best hard court performance with a four-set win over red hot Hungarian József Boros. The seventh seed had been in awesome form throughout the first nine days, but started nervously against the Roland Garros champion. Much like Olesen, he soon found himself down two sets after failing to take his opportunities; Blanco confidently wrapping up the match in four 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

  • Seeded players out:
    József Boros;
    Rasmus Olesen.
  • Hopes of an all-CWLand doubles final are still alive after fourth seeds Jefferson Drake & Martti Korpinen came from a set down to beatn Hungarian twelfth seeds János & Zoltán Varga. The Hungarians had bounced back well from back-to-back first round exits in Montréal and Clowich, and continued their good touch by breaking service early in the first as they shot out to a 5-3 lead. Drake and Korpinen couldn't avoid going a set down, but they did managed to start the second set quicker than their lower seeded opponents as they levelled the match at a set each in just 37 minutes. In a tense second game of the third, the Vargas were unable to capitalise on four game points in what proved to be a match-defining twelve minute game. The CWLanders broke and never looked back; advancing to their second Grand Slam semifinal 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
  • At the French Open, Drake and Korpinen eventually met their end in the semis to Hugh James & Ralph Robinson, and will get their chance at revenge after the second seeds took a tight win over tenth seeds Artem Krohmal & Merab Shvelidze. The Clowich quarterfinalists fought well, but the class and steel of the American duo was the difference between the teams as the Roland Garros champs won 7-5, 7-6(3).

  • Seeded players out:
    Artem Krohmal &
    Merab Shvelidze;
    János Varga &
    Zoltán Varga.

---

Huge couple of semifinals coming up in the singles over the next couple of days, with Drake/Korpinen a better chance IMO to make the final after their recent win over James/Robinson. Davis/Mustard, however, have pushed the Onwyes (I think they've met) so could be a real chance of the first all-CWLand final of the year.

However, I'm sticking will my tips from the start of the tournament and going Drake/Korpinen vs. Onwye/Onwye in the final.
