Hall was always going to be a bridge too far, especially given the workload Heef's had over the past few weeks. Still in with a chance in the doubles. I'll rest up and make sure that I can perform for Mustard (Cialis not required)

Good win in the doubles. Unforutnately for Davis he's out, so I'm hoping we can hold the trophy together at the end of the week to make up for that.

Stoked the Maxum-Bowenburg team has come through the first round, Machado and His pathetic excuse of a doubles partner have no chance.

Dissapointed to have lost the secound round singles mactch, mainly because of the bagling.

Day 6 - Saturday - Nixonstown (CWLand)

Men's Singles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4 - Section 5 - Section 6 - Section 7 - Section 8)
Men's Doubles (Seeds - Finals - Section 1 - Section 2 - Section 3 - Section 4)

  • An inspired effort from Jamaica's Oneil Stewart has seen him pull off another upset of sorts, beating 27th seed Jojo Mustard in four sets. The unseeded French Open quarterfinalist was again forced to grind out sets, but looked in prime shape in the first set as his counter-attacking tennis earned a late break of service. No matter what Mustard tried, he was unable to convincingly slam winners past the world No. 35, but he did managed to earn a decisive break of service in game number 12 in the second set to level the match at a set each. But Stewart kept on plugging away, and from 4-4 in the second set he managed eight of the last nine games in a dominant conclusion to the match; all but ensuring his return to the world's top 30 with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 upset. He will face Australian 23rd seed David Champion in the fourth round after his five-set thriller against Hungarian sixteenth seed Zoltán Varga.
  • The dream run of Thursday's hero Scotland Rivers also came to an end as Swiss 22nd seed Almen Benaglio secured a convincing four-set victory over Rivers. In his first match on Centre Court, an obviously nervous Rivers was broken in his very first service game, and then once more to hand the first set to the in-form Swiss maestro. Having come through a tough draw already, Benaglio looked to press the advantage in the second set as he quickly shot out to a 4-1 lead. But Rivers hit back to send the set to a tiebreaker and to then level the match with the aggressive tennis that earned him the upset against Illya Altman. But Benaglio wasn't going to lay down, and the world No. 20 again earned an early break in the third that proved the difference between the two; Rivers struggling to break the solid service of Benaglio as he edged closer to a fourth round berth. After a less intense fourth set, Benaglio secured a fourth round showdown with eighth seed Rasmus Olesen with a 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 upset.
  • Elsewhere, Hungary's József Boros has emerged as one of the shock favourites in the bottom half after he made waves with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 thrashing of in form Colombian Diego Hurtado. In their last meeting in Montréal, Boros edged a tight three set affair, but here he was in destructive touch as he outplayed and outsmarted the 26th seed in a straight sets destruction. The seventh seed has not dropped a set this week against three explosive players, and now finds himself against another in one of the most anticipated matches on Monday after Croatia's Miroslav Brdar accounted for clay bully Tiago Matías 7-5, 6-0, 6-3.

  • Seeded players out:
    Morgan Carter;
    Diego Hurtado;
    Tiago Matías;
    Jojo Mustard;
    Patrick Pascaul;
    Zoltán Varga.
  • In the biggest upset of the doubles draw, Rob Bowenburg & Jarkko Maxum stunned ninth seeds Morton Blundell & Carlos Machado in a come-from-behind three-set victory. The Bahamas-Brazilian duo made the semifinals of the Canada Masters, and started brilliantly against the inexperienced duo in a dominant first set. But Bowenburg and Maxum found an avenue back into the match after two double faults from Blundell to earn a break of service and some much-needed confidence. From there, the ninth seeds looked dispirited and lost much of their fire as Bowenburg and Maxum eased to one of the biggest upsets of the doubles week so far by a margain of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. They face sixth seeded compatriots Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard next for a place in the quarterfinals.
  • Fourth seeds Jefferson Drake & Martti Korpinen, however, had no such trouble in their straight sets thrashing of Ashim & Seby Kumar. The local favourites cruised through the first set in 23 minutes, before finding renewed resistance from the Indian brothers who won their first game of the match with a surprise break of service. It was short-lived, though, as Drake and Korpinen broke back in game four and again in game twelve to advance 6-0, 7-5. They now faces Serbians Dusko Milošević & Savo Petkoviä in the third round.

  • Seeded players out:
    Morton Blundell &
    Carlos Machado.

Zucchetti Kos Tennis Cup
Semi Finals - Cordenons (Italy)

Men's Singles (Finals - Top Half - Bottom Half)
Men's Doubles (Draw)

  • Former French Open finalist Johan Ortiz has his first chance at silverware this season after a come-from-behind win over Mexican Felipe Pelayo in Cordenons. The Colombian was smashed in the first set, before coming back to claim an important 1-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 win. He faces unseeded local Marco Pellegrini in the final following his 6-3, 6-0 thumping of Ecuador's Paul Arroyo. In the doubles, Argentine pair Juan-Pablo Serrano & Xavier Suarez will do battle with Australian second seeds Dean Cain & Lucas Golec.

  • Seeded players out: Felipe Pelayo.
  • Seeded players out: Sébastien Gagnon & Michel Paquette; Thomas Velten & Sipko Wetzel.

Very disappointed for El Mustardo. Had a great opportunity to progress deep into the tournament, but ran into one of the dark horses.

Well, we'll be able to concentrate on the doubles. Can't believe how many CWLand opponents we've come up against. Sounds like we'll have a match on our hands against Bowenburg & Maxum. Anyone for Centre Court? ;)

Super doubles win that, Maxum-Bowenburg are starting something special here.

very much looking forward to the Davis and Mustard match, has to be centre court, backing it to be a 3 set thriller with the most sober team winning on the day.

Man that sux for Mustard. Really needs to improve during season 2. At least he can concentrate on a doubles Grand Slam trophy.

Had a full writeup done, but then I accidentally refreshed. Luckily, some of it was still in the preview but I'm not exactly keen to write out the rest again. Apologies to Smeltz.

Day 7 - Sunday - Nixonstown (CWLand)

  • In probably the greatest match of the season, twelfth seed Jefferson Drake has exited Centre Court in Nixonstown a quarterfinalist at the CW Open after he overcame the odds to beat compatriot Sven Oxenstierna in a hellacious five-set thriller. Despite his good form this week, Drake came into the match as slight underdog against the sixth seed whilst also being the clear crowd favourite. In a brisk opening set, neither man conceeded a break of service, but it was Oxenstierna who drew first blood as he took the tiebreaker 7-3. But Drake would have his revenge in the second; both men dropping service twice as the twelfth seed evened the score with a 7-2 scoreline on the back of some handy aces and brilliant returns against his opponent who managed just one first services in the tiebreaker. It seemed Drake was on a roll, and in the fourth game of the third set he drew a massive blow to the Ox's confidence by finally converting his fourth break point of the game to edge ahead 3-1 and to ultimately take the set 6-4. However Oxenstierna was not done, and the fourth set again went to a tiebreaker after the Ox failed to convert two set points on the Drake service. It did not matter as he pulled out another all-important tiebreaker performance to send the match to a fifth set. Drake had already played one five set match on Friday, and quickly found himself in trouble as his first service game saw him drop a break point down. However a gutsy drop shot allowed him to easily pass the Ox to keep the set on service. He was not as lucky in the ninth game as Oxenstierna picked up what might have been the match-winning break of service. But it was not to be as he failed to serve out the match, and Drake took advantage to convert his first of two break points to level the match at 5-5. After a much-needed easy service game which involved two aces, Drake soon had a match point on the Oxenstierna serve. But after saving one and bringing up a break point of his own, the sixth seed's luck ran out as he sent a backhand long to give Drake the unexpected 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5 marathon victory.

  • Seeded players out:
    Dwayne Murdoch;
    Sven Oxenstierna;
    Randy Smeltz.
  • Seeded players out:

    Raz Teper.

  • Unpredictable Colombian Johan Ortiz will return to the world's top 100 for the first time since March after yet again coming from a set down to win the Zucchetti Kos Tennis Cup. The second seed was comfortably beaten in the first set by local Marco Pellegrini, before coming back strongly to secure a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win. In the doubles, second seeded Australians David Cain & Lucas Golec easily beat Juan-Pablo Serrano & Xavier Suarez to claim the championship 6-0, 6-4.
