Internationals Discussions and Results

CWFA and captain Tharmi Loganathan have announced the side to play Iceland in the home friendly over the weekend. After some impressive performances in recent internationals the selectors have decided to keep faith with a lot of incumbents.

There were however some changes to the squad with Xavier Rose, Geg Thomas, Liam Camps and suspended Shan Jasotharan missing out on selection. Coming in for these players were Blake Donald, Mat Mitchell, Paddy Gundry and David Comley. All four players have been rewarded for their impressive form their respective clubs during the season and will all start off the bench. All four new players have yet to make their International debuts.

It is expected that CricketWeb will start is an attacking 4-3-3 combination, with Thamba Mamesh starting alongside Dan Smith and Kev Goughy up front. In the past the CricketWeb media have been critical of the team for playing boring football and playing for a result. It is expected that CricketWeb will play a lot more attacking style of football against Iceland.

Form Central United defender Darren Dubb-Lynch has been placed on standby, due to some question marks over defender Jack McNamara availability due to a recent suspension for his club.

The squad is as follows:
Code:
GK: Kyle Wright (Southern Dynamo)
DF: Neil Pickup (Island Swell)
DF: Tharmi Loganathan [c] (Northside Power)
DF: Daniel Towns (Southern Dynamo)
DF: Jack McNamara (Southern Dynamo)
MF: Hakon Mørk (Island Swell)
MF: Zac Gelman (Central United)
MF: G Sriram (Central United)
FW: Kev Gough (Island Swell)
FW: Daniel Smith (Central United)
FW: Thamba Mamesh (Northside Power)

SUB: Blake Donald (Nortside Power)
SUB: David Kearsley (East Coast Fury)
SUB: Mat Mitchell (Central United)
SUB: Paddy Gundry (Northside Power)
SUB: David Comley (Northside Power)

Great to be even considered for the squad, yet alone actually getting a chance to represent CW. Looking forward to the game.

CWLands journey to International football maturity took another step forward today as they clashed with European opposition for the first time.

CW entered the game unbeaten in International football and were certainly facing their toughest task yet. The opposition was an experienced Iceland team which included, Barcelona superstar, Eidur Gudjohnsen.

CW had promised a more dynamic brand of football than the dour offerings of earlier performances on the global stage.

Congrats to Mitchell and Comley for making their International debuts.

Also during the International break Game 3 of the CW Charity Series was played.

Looks like we matched them pretty well, they just finished a lot better. Smith becoming a cult hero one feels. The Andy Cloete of CW Football.

Decent hit out.

Not a good result, obviously. Still not quite on the world top. We were lucky they left Veigar Pall Gunnarsson out though, Gunnarsson and Gudjohnsen would have been a scary pairing.
