Name: Asad ShafiqDraft Number: 10
Playing Role: Middle Order Batsmen
Asad Shafiq is one of a number of young Pakistani players to have gained a chance in the national team, and blossomed, after the spot fixing incident in late 2010. Under the captaincy of Misbah ul Haq Pakistan have steered away from exciting stroke makers such as Umar Akmal and gone instead for a more cautious approach with the likes of Azahar Ali and Misbah ul Haq securing the top order. Shafiq is another one. His strike rate may not be anything special, but the last thing Pakistan needed was more Afridi like players.
Shafiq made his debut against a strong South African side in 2010, scoring an assured 61. He played an important role in Pakistan's whitewash of England in January & February. With many fans and pundits calling for Umar Akmal's inclusion in the side, Shafiq played a match clinching innings in the 3rd innings of the 2nd test, defying England's rampant bowlers for 138 balls in his sides dramatic 72 run victory. Without his contribution England would likely have won the test, and possibly the series with it.
The Cute Soft Cuddly Bears CC is more than happy to have this talented youngster as our round 10 pick and expect many good performances, both this season and in future seasons, from him,.
