24 May 2002 - County Championship, Division 2:
Chester-le-Street, Durham v Gloucestershire
A decent pitch with some seam movement, the odd ball keeping low. The forecast is clear skies and hot weather for the day

Durham: Lewis, Daley, Mann, *Speak, Collingwood, Law, Gough, A Pratt, Harmison, Brinkley, Killeen
Gloucestershire: Windows, Spearman, Taylor, Snape, Harvey, *Barnett, +Alleyne, Fisher, Lewis, Smith, Gannon

Barnett called heads and lost the toss, Durham opted to bat under the sun

3.6, Smith to Daley - full ball, on the stumps, well driven away to long on for four runs, first boundary up for Durham in the game
14.3 Gannon to Lewis - new bowler being brought on, bowls a good length ball, outside off and swings away from the batsman, beaten
20.1 Gannon to Lewis - a bit short, decent bounce, easy drive and it's hit along the ground for four, 50 up for Durham after an hour and eleven minutes
20.2 Gannon to Lewis - same length, on the stumps, swings away from the batsman, plays the wrong stroke and the ball nips middle and off, gone! J Lewis b Gannon 29 (70b, 72min, 4x4) - Durham 52 for 1. Youth batsman Mann steps on
20.3 Gannon to Mann - short ball, on the stumps, plays off his hips and down to backward square leg, fielder runs in, off the mark with a single
20.5 Gannon to Daley - around the wicket, good length ball, tries the drive, edges onto the pads and umpire says not out, good decision
25.2 Fisher to Mann - around the wicket, fuller ball, bowled on his body, tries to tuck it away on the legside but fails to make contact, ball through to keeper
27.6 Fisher to Mann - over the wicket, aims at leg stump, well angled in and batsman fails to make contact
29.3 Fisher to Daley - around the wicket, good length, inside edge onto stumps, clean bowled - J Daley b Fisher 34 (82b, 105mins, 3x4) - Durham 76 for 2. Captain Speak comes in.
33.2 Lewis to Mann - beaten outside off by a good ball
34.5 Harvey to Mann - around the wicket, tries to cut it away on the legside, fails and edges to point, no fielder there, they take the single
35.6 Harvey to Mann - over the wicket, good length and line, cut away to point for a single, 100 up for Durham.
38.6 Harvey to Speak - dot ball and they take lunch, a good session for Durham here as they score 113 for 2.

41.6 Lewis to Mann - short, a bit of bounce, tries to tuck it away on the legside, hits pads, slight inside edge and going high, umpires gives it, end to a partnership of 49! C Mann lbw b Lewis 42 (67b, 76min, 5x4). Durham 125 for 3, Collingwood comes in.
58.1 Gannon to Speak - full toss, hit with soft hands to mid on, fielder runs in and prevents more runs, single, 150 up!
60.4 Gannon to Speak - swings into the batsman, tries to cut it, outside edge and it carries neatly to slips, finger goes up, premature end to a fine innings. N Speak c Spearman b Gannon 30 (98b, 109min, 3x4) - Durham 155 for 4, next batsman is Law.
64.6 Fisher to Collingwood - expected that one to turn, didn't, splashed his stumps and gone he is, Durham in trouble here, P Collingwood b Fisher 21 (61b, 81min, 2x4) Durham 162 for 5, Gough comes in to bat.
71.3 Lewis to Gough, gloves a cut shot, through to keeper, another one gone - Gough c Alleyne b Lewis 9 (11b, 23min, 1x4)
76.6 Fisher to Speak, well driven away to the off side, four runs and 200 up for Durham, and that's tea too, well timed - Durham 203 for 6 (Law 25*, Pratt 5*)

78.5 Fisher to Law - survived a catch behind appeal last time, here he comes, bowls on the stumps and hits his foot, umpire has little doubt, D Law lbw b Fisher 25 (66b, 64min, 3x4). Durham 207 for 7.
94.1 Fisher to Harmison - finally he gets him, has hit him on the pads about five times but not given out, has taken part in a nice partnership though, five-wicket haul for the spinner. S Harmison lbw b Fisher 9 (40b, 55min, 1x4). Durham 245 for 8, Brinkley comes in
100.6 - that's it, the new ball, these lower order batsmen frustrate Gloucestershire badly - 262 for 8 now
101.5 Lewis to Brinkley - immediate success, smacked over the silly mid off fielder for four, good stroke
101.6 Lewis to Brinkley - and again, this time on the on side, past a diving fielder and another boundary
103.6 Lewis to A Pratt - tries to cut it onto the leg side, swings away from the left-hander and beats him, stumps in a mess and clean bowled - A Pratt b Lewis 41 (108b, 115min, 5x4). Durham 277 for 9
105.6 Lewis to Brinkley - wonderful diving catch to short leg Harvey's left, gone, innings ends just before stumps on day one, Durham take two points and Gloucestershire three, J Brinkley c Harvey b Lewis 17 (38b, 41min, 3x4, 0x6)

9.4 Harmison to Taylor, good ball again, line and length, outswing, away from the batsman and beaten
13.1 Harmison to Spearman, a bit short of a length, swings in at the Kiwi, tries to play the drive down the ground, gets an outside edge to second slip and gone, good start for Durham! C Spearman c Mann b Harmison 27 (37b, 50min, 3x4)

That's three people now - DaveyHall, bugssy and you - who wants to join this one - why don't you start your own? I bet you could get five players, now that everyone sees that this idea actually works :)

Durham Lord it over Middlesex

After the cool technical analysis of Norwegian coach Håkon had powered the team to 2 wins, the raw agression of Lancashire's Richards was called upon to get the team through the trip to cricket HQ and the tough northerner wasted little time in making changes, out went 'soft' players such as Harmison Daley and Thorpe and in came Peng, Mustard and hatch aswell as the spin duo Bridge and Philipps.

The game couldn't have started any better for Durham Killeen collected a simple caught an bowled in the second over without a run scored, Brown the man out, soon to be followed by Strauss who edged Kileen behind for 5. The wickets continued to flow before lunch with the three change bowlers Bridge, Phillips and Law picking a wicket up each and then Middlesex collapsed, only Maunders offering resistance as Kileen finished with 4 and Phillips 3. Middlesex all out 138.
