Press Release

In a new ruling introduced by the governing body teams that come bottom in both the County Chapionship and the National League in the same year are to be relegated

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2002 saw the demise of Middlesex (Sorry Middlesex fans) and promotion came to Bedfordshire under their newly appointed coach David Hall

Unfortunately the rules stated that new counties must not have players who have played first class or one day games.

How could such an inexperienced group of players compete with the great counties...

how did you edit all the stuff??
I used Magpie to change Middlesex for Bedfordshire which involved changing all the stats over

I then 'played' a the 2002 season by skipping all the matches.

When it came to the contracts page I terminated all players who had played a game (Harsh I know) and finished bidding

As i only had 3 players in the team the computer made up the rest by giving me a load of youth players

Easy huh!

First Game - County Championship - Somerset v Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire win the toss and elect to bat

The Team and their first innings

A Underwood 1
D Holt 30
B Duncan 19
P Sherbourne 5
T Deakin 1
F Raffety 43
A Fry 24
R Sprake 19
C Rendell 36
A Ready 4
I Richards 1

The nervous start was evident and possibility of a complete disaster when Bedfordshire were 58 for 5 with 45 minutes still to go before lunch.

A useful 40 runs were added either side of lunch for the 6th wicket and this was followed with 38 for the 7th and 64 for the 8th.

The score was 200 and the last two men needed to produce something special to make the score respectable. Unfortunately they were both dismissed with only 7 extra runs on the board.

So bowled out for 207 in 85 overs could it get worse....

For the rest of day 1 and day 2 the home side batted superbly notching up 494 runs a lead of 287. 120 runs were put on for the last wicket!!

Bedfordshire's Bowling card

I Richards 5 for 150
A Ready 4 for 173
C Rendell 1 for 88
A Fry 0 for 77

Bedfordshire had a huge task to avoid an innings defeat. Their second innings was better

A Underwood 14
D Holt 91
B Duncan 71
P Sherbourne 62
T Deakin 6
F Raffety 31
A Fry 14
R Sprake 0
C Rendell 0
A Ready 8
I Richards 2

A solid start by the openers and Bedfordshire's first 50 by D Holt was followed by two more from Duncan and Sherbourne. Sadly neither were able to reach 100. Bowled out this time for 319 mid way through the first session on the 4th day.

Somerset needed just 34 to win and they cruised to victory with 10 wickets to spare.

Bedfordshire take just 4 points putting them 5th in the league.

Bedfordshire fail to shine in the National League

The first two matches in the national league bring continual gloom.

1st Match - Derbyshire v Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire 148 all out
Derbys 150 - 6

2nd Match - Gloucestershire v Bedfordshire

Gloucestershire 264 - 4
Bedfordshire 167 all out

With nothing significent to report from the teams performance the players have a lot to learn about one day matches.
As for the coach, with 9 straight defeats, he needs to go back to the drawing board and plan for the up and coming County Championship matches against Leicestershire and Hampshire.

C&G match is next...

I've been drawn against Kent. They have already beaten me in the Super Cup

A tough match ahead

I've been inspired to play a similar game as Lincolnshire - only I've allowed myself an overseas player to make it a little bit easier :)

Who promptly got injured for a month (Thilan Samaraweera)

So far I've managed 0-5 in the Super Cup, 0-4 in the NCL and 0-3 (4 draws) in the CC.

As for the C&G - I beat Gloucestershire and then Leicester :)

Northants in the Quarters!
