I think well done to you for trying something different.

I'd be tempted to try something like that if I didn't find CM too enticing!

I think you are trying something really original and that is good.

The team though needs a bowler

I know! - what can I do in the short term though?

Time to try out one or two of the other players in the team - see if I can get an alrounder to play reasonably.

With 5 matches now completed here is a view of the batting and bowling averages.

What do you think?
I think that Ready bloke has potential. Apart from that, you need some bowlers :)

Having now completed a whole season with Lincolnshire, I can confidently say that it's the toughest task I've ever tried on ICC.

My final analysis (W-L-D):
SuperCup: 0-5-0 - eliminated
C&G Trophy: 3-1-0 - semi finalists before being creamed by Warwicks
NCL: 3-13-0 - eighth place (Middlesex suck almost as badly as me)
CC: 1-5-10 - eighth (would have been seventh had I not forfeited an inns against Middlesex in an attempt to turn a draw into a win - I lost)

The key strategy in the CC was that slow runs are infinitely better than no runs - and we batted down the order with grit to eke out 300s and the like over a day-and-a-bit which saved games and allowed us more batting points than anyone else in the league (Samaraweera's 1,824 runs helped).

Another thing to note is that you should ignore the symbols a player has - they have no effect on his batting ability. I had bowlers (Christian Wall and Danny Eddery) coming in at 5 and 6 and batsman at 8 and 9 at one point. Both those bowlers averaged 30+ (Eddery averaged 70 but was loads of not outs due to 10/11 being rabbits) - their top scores were 132 and 89*.

I've had a good end of season draft and for 2003, I've bolstered the batting line-up with some youth players and signed another rookie someone else released. I still have no bowling teeth, but bat to 10 (Eddery) - so hope for a good NCL run.

I had concluded the same thing about the CC. Unfortunately I dont have Samaraweera but Holt and Sherbourne have performed well so far.

What was your wickie like? Sprake was mine, he had caught 7 and stumped no-one and his last 4 innings were 0, 0, 0, 2 - I ditched him. Whether Ricketts will be any better I wait to see.

Does the same thing apply to bowling ability as batting ability?

National League Game - Lancs v Beds

Lost the toss and put into Bat

Trying to play on a hard dry pitch Beds were 26 - 4. Needing to be more defensive to try and avoid complete humiliation.

Finished 102 - 8 (2.3 an over)

Lanc got 104 - 3 in 28.3 overs

New bowler - Leaburn took 2 - 33 off 9 overs

Winning OD games is going to be tough.

Most of my batsman have enough trouble batting to give them the ball - the few overs I've given them out of either desperation or bad OD maths have not been promising.

I've used 3 different wickies in 1 and a bit seasons. They're all born number elevens, but seem fairly solid behind the stumps.

So far this year, I've gone 0-1-1 in the CC, 2-3 in the SuperCup (shouldve been 3-2 but I only managed 2 off a last over..) and 0-1 in the NCL.

No... if you ever found 03/04 boring (like me) then you have to go back to 01/02 (like me)!!

Update from the end of Lincolnshire's second season...

C&G: Round 4 (having beaten Lincolnshire in round three.. oops)
NCL: 7-9 and sixth place - never quite looked like putting a promotion run together
CC: DIVISION TWO CHAMPIONS!

Samaraweera took 129 wickets and made 1,512 runs, ably supported by fellow off-spinner Danny Eddery (79w, 525r) and opener Scott Dickens (~1100r) as we won at the Riverside on the last day to pip Essex to the title. The three spinners (middle order batsman Justin Chandler took 6) picked up 214 of the 295 wickets to fall.. can you guess how I prepared my home wickets?

The turning point of the season was when reserve batsman Ian Boston (83*) and number ten Scott Buller (62) batted for five hours against Leicestershire to stave off almost certain defeat. From thereon in we won four games out of five and sealed the title.

Only one major new signing (aside from another rabbit keeper), left-arm seamer Dean Tunnicliff signing from the Lincs Academy, having impressed for Stamford in the Premier League. Let's see if we can stay up..

It's so annoying having to stick to youth players only... in the last three years, Dean, Bassano and Hoggard have all retired due to no-one wanting to sign them, and I've got £145,000 sitting unused in my account. Grr...
